Its easier to store the key in the RF shielded pouch when I'm at home.

I've had many cars with smart keys and could care less if they were stolen, but I have a special bond with my truck which is why I'm worried.

Btw.. This alert is for everyone, but specifically for owners in SoCal. There appears to be a theft ring in SoCal targeting trucks I think everyone should be aware of.

Sorry I have to be the one to say it, but I can't go on living this way...

*Let's go places (not be confused with @Letsgoplaces who may have fallen off the planet. Come back Chris!)

Whew! Glad I got that off my chest! Seriously though, thanks for the heads-up on the nerd thieves

Maybe try putting a club on the steering wheel. That way the thieves might go to the next vehicle instead of yours.

I would leave the key fob in the truck, if I thought someone would steel it, tailgate and all.

Which is every 2016+ TRD or Limited....

What I gathered from the article was the thieves are using a device that acts as relay between the real original fob and the car. Essentially fooling the car into thinking the fob is nearby/inside and fooling the fob into thinking it's close to the car. No hacking or cracking since this exploit is actually using the fob itself.

    Article at Wired: https://www.wired.com/2016/03/study-finds-24-car-models-open-unlocking-ignition-hack/

I'm not real concerned. Folks doing that are going to hit the executives fancy big$$$ cars at their reserved spots in the parking deck at work long before they get to my truck. At home the dogs make everyone quite aware of anyone coming up our driveway.

I'm insured, however my truck was not easy to find nor will it be easy to replace.

If they want it bad enough, they are going to get it, no matter what it takes.

NO, apparently... the more tailgates that get stolen... the more demand there is to get a replacement..!! (Are you with me yet)..??
It's a matter of supply and demand... if the dealer wants...say $1,200 for TG with paint is $1,700...(I'm not sure)

Black market is about $700.00... (and "in your colour)... guess what...!! You just bought your TG back...!!!

To keep your key fob from "talking" to your truck simply put it into battery save mode. Hold the lock button and press the unlock button twice. The red light will blink four times. The key will not respond to the trucks signals. To resume regular key fob functions just press any key on the fob. These instructions are in the owner's manual. This is a simple no cost work around. Just remember to do the same to your second fob.
