I remember people bricking their droids and iPhones left and right back in the day trying to "root" or "unlock" them.

I had one of those as well. Had the bootloader unlocked on it before I even got out of the parking lot of the store where I bought it. And I wasn't driving, so it wasn't a question of me sitting there for a long time working on it, it was literally just a few seconds I had it in my hands ;)

EDIT: In 2008, when blackberry was still very prevalent and pretty much on top, I said, to myself and others, that they would have to ditch their software and go with Android if they wanted to survive. Imagine my surprise when they finally did! Too bad they waited until it was way beyond too late.

Perhaps not, but it is a bad thing to prevent others from doing what they want. That's what google does, they keep it mostly locked, until you unlock it with "fastboot oem unlock" or more recently "fastboot flashing unlock". Then you become god.

They still do. But that is limited to those devices that are forcibly locked to begin with. Locking the bootloader increases the odds that somebody is going to screw it up. Giving the owner the key to fastboot keeps everything safe. Something goes wrong? fastboot flash boot boot.img; fastboot flash system system.img; fastboot format userdata; fastboot reboot

I have a Galaxy S7. Streaming music and hands free phone calling work great. I don't use any of the entune apps. Qi wireless charging and the USB port are pathetically slow. More of a maintainer than charger. I got like 3% over 30 minutes. Need to move that bed outlet into the center console so I can charge my phone.

...so back to functionality with entune......anyone have experience with android and apple with the truck? my iphone6+ constantly has tethering issues when first connecting with truck for playing music. once connected, works fine. time for an upgrade though, so i am also deciding between phones.

iPhone 7 plus. Pairs up nice. Music and phone call great. Text messages will not read out loud. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Oh well.

I have a Motorola Droid Turbo, and a SR truck. The only issue I have had is when I connect first thing in the morning while in the driveway. The phone is on wifi, and I usually have to stop Pandora and restart it once I am down the street. Otherwise it has worked flawlessly.

Are you talking about just bluetooth streaming, or using the Entune based apps such as Pandora?

If the former, delete and re-pair your phone. My iphone6 worked perfectly fine as does my iPhone 7.

As to Pandora and such, that issue is the Entune app on iOS. It has serious problems, and have nothing to do with your specific phone model. I think its affecting all iPhone users. I find if I kill the Entune app and restart it everything is fine for a while, but the next morning or afternoon I need to re-kil/restart the app. I read recently that Android had an app update and someone had good results, so I keep hoping for an update on iOS.

Delete / re-pair without Quick Contacts enabled. I referenced a post about this in the past three or four days, check my recent postings.

You conveniently left out the part where I said Android specs blows away icrap

By the way that was not a rant, I mentioned 2 things and you took it and ran with it, don`t take my word for it, go compare some iphones to my 4 year old Droid turbo and see for yourself. icrap is doing everything they can to try to catch up in the game, if they don`t, eventually their customers will leave them and they know it.

LOL. You`re already comparing, but ok. :D

Don`t get pissed because I pointed out what Icrap refuses to tell their customers.
I`m trying to help you regardless if you believe it or not.

Using derogatory terms such as "icrap" is divisive and puts off anyone you might be trying to get to listen to your arguments.

If you want to play the part of angsty teen technodweeb, keep right on at it; but if you instead actually are interested in having an adult discussion consider acting like one. Disrespectfully impugning others choices with every reference does your argument no favors.

Your GSMarena link lists hardware specs. Meh. Hardware specs are for companies who share an operating system as that's their only way to differentiate themselves from their competition. The majority of the phone-buying public doesn't give a shit. They only care about how much it costs and can they use their apps. They care about real world usability, which isn't revealed by hardware spec comparisons when crossing OS and cpu/gpu architecture boundaries. The only time Jane Q Soccermom hears about specs is when she's getting snowed by some best buy blueshirt aiming for the biggest commission.

This isn't the time or place for a treatise on the network effects of platform integration creating "stickiness", but it's a significant factor in many people's choice of which phone they buy. Apple has been playing that card for a while and keeps right at it, making tons of money at it too. Hardware specs don't play a part in that, at least not beyond what's necessary to achieve the end-user benefit they're selling. That's one reason why they basically don't market themselves on specs (with some exceptions) - their marketing focus is on what people can do with the devices and how they will enrich their lives.

Really, the only folks who care are some techies, and not all of them give a damn about it either so long as the hardware's enough to get the job done.

LOL, to be expected. Ad hominem attacks are the last refuge of people who have no answers. Come up with a cogent point if you want to be listened to.

I have no allegiance to any platform except whatever best serves my needs.

For anyone curious, I currently own iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows devices/computers. Previously I've also owned Blackberries, Treos, Nokia/Symbian phones, as well as iPad and Palm handhelds. I've owned or been responsible for Linux, OS/2, DOS, Solaris, SunOS, BSD, HPUX, and AIX systems at various point in time. Just in case anyone thought I've only used iOS or some other idiotic assumption.

Galaxy S7 for work, Honor 8 for personal. Really like the Honor...good specs, unlocked, and under $400. EMUI is a like/love it or hate UI, but I find it's actually kind of a nice compromise of IOS and Android OS. Really wish dual sim phones were more popular in the US so we could have some options that work on the necessary bands. Both phones work fine with the truck.

It sure seems like you get mad when others voice an opinion that differs from yours.

    Are you mad ?
