No. We have two Ol dogs that need one of us around full time. As soon as they go, we go, moving down south. They're too old to move and this property has been their whole life. So it's all about spoiling them to the end.

Funny to hear my hubby talk, he use to say "boy I remember ten years ago like it was yesterday. Wow, does time sure fly".

Now he has a completely different outlook. Now he says "boy oh boy, ten years is about all I've got left, and based on how fast the last ten went I can only imagine how fast these next ten, if I'm lucky, will go"

He's basing that on family history, he's in good shape, but heart disease is Huge in his family. And cancer too. His two older brother, 6 & 7 years older. Their nicknames Bi-pass and Heartattack! Both had issues right around 50 years old, and Bi-pass, a decade later, so that's like a couple years ago, he had a Quadruple Bi-pass.

So far he's had no problems/issues, but your family history is a pretty good indicator of what might/could happen.

I did have a complaint about our cats, every time they jumped out of their litter box, well they made a mess. That darn litter would get all over the place. Especially all around their box.

So I took a big cardboard box and cut the sides down to about 12 inches. Then I stuck their litter box in the corner of the bigger box. Cut a hole for them to enter/exit. Still a mess, but now it was mostly contained in that bigger box.

Husband to the rescue! Told him my complaint, and the next day he hands me a couple pieces of paper with his "plans". I'm look'n at it and thinking "huh". How's that gonna work.

Of course he says "I'll show you, give me a couple days". So I pretty much forgot all about it.

Well until the weekend that is......then he show me "the Cat House Monstrosity Part II"

The litter box, which we kept in the bathroom, is gone. In its place is what looks like a big chest of some sort. It looks like it's about 20 inches tall, maybe 30 inches long, and 20 inches deep.

I mean seriously, this thing looks like a piece of furniture. Then I notice it has like two steps/platforms and a mouse hole look'n entrance. So I'm like what the heck. But he explains to me that once they enter there's a wall/divider in the middle that goes about 3/4 of the way. So from the entrance they have to zig-zag their way across to another hole in the far corner.

Once they reach the other hole, they jump down to the litter box and do their business. Then back up thru the hole, zig-zag back to the mouse hole exit. But the key feature, the floor is made of peg board, so any litter on their feet falls threw the peg board holes and down into the litter box!

The top was Formica and we kept their food and water on top. Easy to clean, the litter box/lower section was on casters and was very easy to pull forward to clean.

Not sure I explained it very well. Sometimes it's hard to describe it so here's a pic that hopefully explains it better than my words.

Oh, forgot to mention, to keep the dogs out of their space, and especially since they had their food in there too. So he made another door, well half, make that quarter door, for the bathroom entrance with a mouse hole entrance.

had a "girl day" with mom today. :woot: went shopping together, had lunch, just hung out. something we haven't done in a while. she's had a bad hip and for the last few years couldn't walk or do much at all. got her hip replaced last November and she's finally strong enough to get back to some of her normal activities. her and dad camp a lot in the summer (like me) so today was our first chance to get out together. dad opted to stay home and hang out in his garage. was a good day

Wish I could have weekends to do stuff. Going on two years of midnights working every fucking weekend is starting to get old.

I hear ya....I worked shift work & weekends for F'n 20 years!!!!!!!! It was great while I was young and after the hubby & I got married - cuz you could make a hell-of-a-lot-of-money (for what it was).

My breaking point was about 3 years ago - I started looking around for new jobs knowing damn well - with my experience - I'd end up in another factory. Good luck trying to find a factory job (Machine Operator) that DOESN'T work weekends/shift work. If they don't - they certainly aren't looking for help. I have 4 weeks vacation and that's VERY hard to give up. I started checking jobs outside and within the same company not knowing what (or if) I could do with my experience.

A fellow Machine Operator (another women) got a job (BILLER) in the Billing department (financial/accounting) of the same company. Probably after about 2 months of looking....a BILLER position opened up. I applied.... It was a very nervous process. It'd been 22 years since I last had an interview!!! I was scared shitless....and almost bailed on the idea. The Supervisor who I interviewed with, had convinced me that I could do the job. Needless to say.....I was THANKFUL that she convinced me, because they hired me!! It's been almost 3 years now - and I was promoted to the next level just a few months ago. Just like any other job....its a rollercoaster but I deal with it nicely (I think). I always get along and love the people I work with.

Granted - I took a HUGE pay cut. Sitting on my ass 8 hours a day. I'm still working for the same company which has gone downhill in the last 5 years. Management in this department is the same as my previous department (communication sucks, organization sucks, processes don't make sense, etc). I kept my 4 weeks vacation, work dayshift, and my weekends off are a blessing!! Now, I just gotta count my days till retirement (early?).

I'd recommend all my fellow Machine Operator friends to come to this department, but unfortunately...they can't take the pay cut.
    (sorry, didn't mean to ramble)

That's great that you finally were able to make it out of the plant, but that seems true about always weekends in factory work from what I've heard in the past.
I understand them not wanting to take the pay cut, but once you have enough of your life set up, why not? It'd be better to enjoy your life if there was an option, lol.

Unfortunately for me, anywhere i go in my field of work will require working weekends, nights, mids, swings, you name it.. for years on end and the very little likelihood that I will gain enough promotion/seniority to not need that.
The problem is, right now I'm stuck in a job I don't intend to stay in. I have some more weight to lose and fitness level to gain before I can finally get my lazy ass to the police academy. For now I'm just a glorified door locker.. i.e. university campus safety.

Where there's a will, there's a way!! I don't know how old you are - but it sounds like you have a whole word of time ahead of you. But at the same time - don't get 'stuck' and wonder 'where has the time gone' and 'I could've done something different'.

I think as we age and get closer to retirement - there's less opportunity to change and more opportunity to think about WHAT IF...?? LOL

I used to work weekends - wasn't so bad. When my days off rolled around I found it easier to get all of my errands done - stores, banks, doctors, etc all have better hours during the week and aren't nearly as busy. and doing any traveling was easy too - fewer folks on pleasure trip during the week days

been pondering that myself lately. one of the reasons I left my last job. just wanted to do something different - considered taking some time off just to travel and bum around but hte more sensible side of me said i needed an income. i hate sensible me sometimes! been thinking of starting my own business. i have a couple of good ideas that should be fairly successful - just have no clue how to even get started! :goingcrazy:

If there's something you want bad enough, you can find a way to make it happen!

I worked nights by choice for years. It fit my normal body/sleep cycle and I liked my job. (Pay sucked)

When we got married, I was working part time because he had such a great paying job. But the job itself was sucking the life out of him and me. It was M-F but his work phone rang at all hours and all days. Shitty boss and no real advancement potential.

We took a long hard look at work we thought we really would like and what kinds of places that work was offered. Salaries, cost of living, work schedules. All that crap.

He still makes good money but he took a 5 digit hit to his salary. We have a much tight budget now but we both LOVE our work. Love WHERE we work. And our off day opportunities are never ending.

You can make it work. You just have to plan and prioritize.

Are you not familiar with the new sport known as wild hog hunting?

Central Texas was founded by Germans. They like the pig. Some got away. Oh shit.
