I have a 2016 trd4x4 tacoma...when coming to a stop there is a pop in the rear end....I took it to the dealer and they said it's spline wrap that's causing it and it's normal...is this true? Does anyone else have this problem?

Whats your spline count? Does it sound like...to you that it might be jumping a spline?

Not sure on the count....taking it to the dealer 4 times now...they keep saying it's normal on the 2016s...I can't find anyone else that has the same problem....just before coming to a stop there is a pop..I can here it and feel it....coming from the rear end area...the dealer did have a field tech come out and drive the truck and he is the one that says it's spline wrap and it's normal...

It doesn't sound or seem normal to me...but the dealer will not budge on trying to fix it since the field Tec said it's normal on ALL 2016 trd 4x4 tacomas

Probably what is more commonly known as "axle wrap"... stiffer rear springs shocks will fix.

Tighten U-bolts to factory spec ??

What causes this is the drive shaft into the carrier bearing doesn't slide back n forth like its supposed to - no way to lube it. I'd ask the dealer if there's anyway to add a zirk in there so the shaft will slide instead of popping in and out.

I forgot our axles are made of rubber bands so when you come to a stop the tension release will make it pop back into its original form

I have a stage 4 icon lift on the truck now...the pop was doing it before the lift and it still does it with the lift on now

Ya maybe axle wrap. Possibly it's the shackle moving back into place?

From what they say it's the end of the drive shaft that's popping when it's finding its way back in...I never heard of anything like this

Not spline wrap, it's binding because it needs to be greased so it can slide back and forth as intended. Idiot mechanics...........

Toyota has had issue with this with other models [FJ Cruiser for one], it shouldn't be some ''unknown'' problem.

Tell the dealer/mechanic to grease the bloody thing instead of dumping it off on the old ''they all do this'' BS excuse. If that doesn't fix it then they need to replace the driveshaft.

A new bolt here, a new bolt there, a new bolt everywhere.
Take it to another dealer. Your Toyota warranty covers you across the board with any authorized Toyota Dealer. Why, keep going to the same dealership.

If the tree keeps giving you lemons and you want orange juice, it's time to find a new tree.

I have talked to another dealer and they said they never heard of the problem on any 2016s but since the field tec came out and said that's what it is and that it's normal there is nothing they can do...Toyota won't let them try and fix it

Screw it. Run it. If there a problem in the near future then warranty will fix it. Maybe as the other person said it will go away after some time.
