Just bought my new Tacoma Access Friday, (2 days ago). The bug deflector was shipped with the truck but not installed. I requested that when it arrives "Do not install the bug deflector". They didn't oblige. Went to pick it up Friday and they had already installed it here locally. I wasn't a happy camper. Salesman tells me "I'm sorry, I forgot". I have an appointment to have this removed Monday. QUESTION: Can they remove this without damaging the paint? At first I wasn't really reassured by the salesman but after he made a couple of calls he says they can remove it without damaging the paint. This truck only has 54KL (30 miles) on it. I would be really upset if they damaged the paint. Salesman says it is glued on and they can heat the glued spots and remove it. What does heating the glued spots do to the paint?? I am really nervous about this.
    Thank You

It's fine, especially with it not being attached for very long.

They'll have to be careful but it won't damage your paint at all.

So, it did ship with a bug deflector and you requested Do NOT install. They installed anyway.
Let them try to remove it, if you are not happy with the results then the dealer owes you a new paint job on the hood, simple as that.

If you were going to install it anyway, what's the big deal?

You are correct. If I was going to install it anyway there would be no big deal but I had no intention of installing it... ever.

They don't keep bugs of your windshield anyhow. Good call!

    Got any pictures of it.

I'm assuming your plan was to sell it as a new item, and now that it has been installed it's used. Bummer, I wouldn't worry about them hurting the paint.

I didn't know that was an order option. That's why I assumed you ordered it with the truck, and just perhaps wanted to install it yourself.

An actual bug shield helps by redirecting the windscreen up over the windshield. It's not 100% effective but they do help. I'm pretty sure the OP's is a aeroskin. Which 3m tapes to the hood. They just offer add looks and protection of stone chips

I would say you are correct about it being a Aeroskin Hood Protector. I had one on the 2015 Chevy Colorado I traded in 11 months ago for my new Tacoma.

A 3" deflector on the front of a long hood like what we have, is really doing minimal work if anything. More for looks (if you like that look), than anything else.

    Well that sucks.

Personally, if I'd arrived to take delivery and saw they'd installed the thing I'd have refused delivery until after it'd been removed. What's done is done though.

The VHB tape likely used for that should come off with no residue or damage as recently as it went on, provided they don't f' up during the removal.

Definitely inspect the attachment points extremely carefully and in good light. Don't accept job completion after dark, be sure to view in full sunlight.
