Depends on what you want and are looking for. I wanted a blue taco with 4WD and cheap! My dealer had like 20 tacos, only 1 in blue. It was an SR5 with the SR5 package, towing package, and en-tune audio upgrade package. I felt for the extra money for a TRD or sport, I could make up in aftermarket parts and have a better truck. I have been off roading for my taste, and it does the job extremely well. I have never gotten stuck, and honestly I have more fun turning off the TCS and crap, and letting her run free, lol. Shes been a good truck, and every once in a while I get the itch to trade her in for a new truck, and I look and look, and realize there's no better truck than the truck that sits in front of me. She's #1 in resale value, she's got a 10 year old power plant that has been proven to be bullet proof, its a 4.0 V6 which roars, squeals tires, and throws me into the seat when I punch it (sorry 3.5 guys). Yes she drinks gas, but honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. She's what I like to call, "ole tried and true" or "ole reliable". As I get older, I appreciate the simple things in life. I've had loaded cars in the past, and don't get me wrong, I love them, but for some reason with my "stripped" Tacoma, I don't have the heart to get rid of her. I think she's here to stay, and we have had some good memories so far 24K miles later. Also, if I care about fuel economy, I have two motorcycles. The CRF250L is my daily that gives me 56mpg, mostly city riding, and the CTX700E gets me around 67mpg, mostly hwy. The truck is for my rainy and cold days or I miss driving her days, lol. She also makes 3000 mile round trips back home 2-3 times a year without a hiccup, and transports my toys, me, my stuff, and still takes my abuse without ever complaining. She has truly been a great truck to me, with zero problems from the start. My advise is to see what you really need and want and go for it, and hey! the SR5 might just steal your heart! I honestly wouldn't mind buying another one and keeping it 100% stock, just something about a stock truck! I get alot of shit from people who own the big 3, but honestly, not one of them are willing to take their mouth off the blacktop. I had one guy race me in his hemi quad 1500, and I blew the doors off his truck. Power/weight ratio is better in the taco VS a ram 1500 hemi. The 4.0 is a stout of an engine. The ones that truly appreciate a taco are the ones who know what a taco is capable of. :)

Because V6 M/T was not even available in the SR5 truck when I bought mine.

I'm learning to live with the extra gadgets on the OR though lol..

Theres a Toyota dealer here (the one I decided not to buy from) that has a blazing blue pearl SR5 with 7500 miles listed for $32,499.

I paid $34,090 for my blazing blue TRD sport with predator steps.

If they want that much for the truck it was probably more than mine new, pretty sad

I wouldn't trust those dealership prices to be accurate. A lot of times they grossly overprice used Tacomas, especially ones that are 1-3 years old. I would check off of KBB, Black Book, and NADA for accurate values. Or you can check out the pricing thread to see the invoice price when it was new versus what yours was when it was new.

That's why I got a new taco and not used. A 13 OR with 30k miles was 5k cheaper then a brand new 16 OR, least for the price I got mine. It was a no brainer.

Honestly, I went right to the TRD's when I was shopping. Didn't even look at the SR5. Ended up in an off road Taco.

Actually, I never even drove the sport... just looked at it. I drove some older used Tacos, but as far as the new ones go, I have only ever driven the off road.

My non-negotiable criteria for my new truck was this:
    > MANUAL
    > 4x4
    > 4 Door
    > Tow package
    > Not a 4 banger

Perks to the OR vs the Sport:
    > Mainly the suspension and off road stuff. I am by no means gonna crawl with this thing, but here in WA, I cold be in Sand, snow, or mud all in the same weekend. My last truck (2004 Dakota SLT with the 4.7 V8) handled that stuff pretty well, but to have the option of a truck that was MADE to do that sort of thing? No questions asked.

The suspension can also be called out as a slight annoyance as well. It took me a while to get used to the spongy feeling and the lurching when I accelerate and the crouching when I'm braking. The SLT Dakota didn't do that, because it was built to tow (and had torsion bar front suspension). Because this suspension is tuned for off road driving, the overall cargo capacity is slightly less that other models (my sticker says 950 vs 1100 for some).

And these brakes are touchy as shit. But you know, I'd rather have overly powerful brakes than under powered ones.

Another thing that I have accepted is that my TRD OR does NOT have crawl control (because I have a manual). I take it as a blessing, because I hear a lot of crap about transmission problems with the autos.

The Taco has her quirks, yes. But I am glad I spent the extra for the TRD OR.

There is a you tube kicking around that shows how to use your clutch cancel as a crawl control. Basicly, put it in gear hit clutch cancel and start the truck.

    EDIT: Found this one

Seems like that is a quick way to burn up a starter, but a good video. I hadn't gotten around to learning how to use the clutch cancel yet.

I have never used it like this. Nor would I have thought to do it.

I though it was for the mornings I did want to climb in to start. Reach in put in N, turn key to acc, push clutch cancel and then turn over, walk away or brush the snow off.

Never said it was, but if my feet are in snow, why do I want to get in to start, leave snow in my vehicle, get out to clean off the snow and get back in again?

Or if it's chilly, and I left stuff inside, why get in just to get back out?

Maybe it's just me. Not sayin you're wrong, but that never bothered me... I grew up in the Rochester/ Buffalo area. Plus, I got the all weather mats, so that's a plus :)

I know that now, but I can not understand how using it once in a while can be more harmful than using it as crawl control. Again, I only used it after shifting to N

Edit: didn't see your every day statement. Again if it's in neutral I can not see it as an issue, just an electronic by pass then

Has anyone done the map updates for their Canadian 2015 Tacoma. I just checked with Toyota Canada and they want $440 for the update. that is totally crazy. You can buy a GPS with lifetime updates for less then that

I hope Toyota realizes this and figures out how to fix it, I will not pay a dam dime for them to update my map, if not then...
