well guys, my 2-week old Tacoma got dented by a shopping cart at Wal-mart last night. if i had the side step bars, it would not have hit the door.

i've seen several vendors, prices vary by $100 or more. are they all the same? looking for chrome ones. thanks.

Go for black. I'm looking at getting the ones from Avid Offroad and possibly painting them black or powdercoating. Silver and black looks good.
I had the factory steps which I kinda got bored with so I sold them, but they were on my truck for pretty much the whole time I owned it so now to me it looks a little weird without them on.

^ ya avid makes great products. If you wheel I recommend getting sliders instead. Step rails don't protect the truck well at all

I'm a picture person...but they can be welded on or bolt onto you rig for protection against rock, car doors and shopping carts. Avid makes the ones I posted and they are GREAT! You have to call or e-mail him though because they don't have them on the website yet. Brandon is a really awesome guy and will give you a more than far price for quality work. I opted for the weld on for added strength and protection.

been looking on autoanything.com and it looks like the main differences are

    1. 3" or 4"
    2. black or chrome
    3. U-shape or straight

i am honestly going with the bars that have the smallest logo on the step pads, i hate company logos

Did you see the sliders I posted...no company logo and they offer the most versatility. Steps and trail/parking lot protection.

Go with the sliders, i have some westin platinum series nerf bars (that im selling....hint hint nudge nudge) and wish i would have spent a little more money up fron and gotten some sliders. but if you want some nerf bars they have been pretty nice to me so far.

edit: just noticed that you are a long box, mine wont work for you

IMO black looks better than chrome

I avoid wallmart, almost 100% made in China stuff sold there.

Avid makes some sweet bars AND they are made in America.

P.S. are the step pads plastic or rubber? or does it vary by brand?

I just bought some Aires 4" black oval tube steps, but they do have logos at each rubber step. What I liked most was they have just a slight bend at each end. Kind of in between the standard straight, and rounded ends......

    I got them from realtruck.com.

Go with whatever you want, It's your truck. Sliders are cool now, but if everyone puts a set on their truck they suddenly become uncool. If you want chrome step bars go for it. Wish i knew more about them. I was one of the fist in my area to do the black wheel thing, now you see a truck on every corner with black wheels. Or be really creative and get chrome sliders, Just kiddin, that would be f'n retarded.
