I had considered the SS ones but I liked the appearance of the black ones better. I'm not a big chrome guy but that is totally subjective. They've been holding up well which I credit to the mud flaps and the fact that I don't drive a lot of gravel roads (except the regular roads covered in gravel in the wintertime). I didn't actually measure it but the bars appear to sit pretty close to wheel width. I also pondered getting 4" ones but I settled on the 5". My concern was that the 5" ones would look too big for the mid-size of the truck. Once I had them mounted, I was happy with how they looked and the extra inch makes them a bit more stable as a step.

Yeah... a hose clamp on the right side so it can't come off.... then I covered the clamp screw head in JB Weld, so they can't get a wrench on it.... $.50 fix....

I've been wanting a TRD Off-road Double Cab here in Canada (but really want the Long Box), I guess we can't have everything.

Does anyone have experience with the Short bed with a bed extender? Ideally I'd like to be able to fit a 6ft ladder in the bed. Wondering how much length the extender would add to the short bed.

The extender is just a set of bars that sit on your tailgate. Just drop your tailgate and tie your ladder down and you're good to go. It would be nice to have the option of a long box on a DCOR up here. At least we made progress and got a DC up here this year. Not sure what toyota is thinking.

With your tailgate down you should have about 6.5' of cargo area, just bear in mind to distribute a heavier load across to the box.

    Perfect, thanks.

I'm a self employeed contractor. My work vehicle is also my daily driver, and being 29 years old, my wife and I are looking to start a family soon so the Double cab is a must. The ladder isn't needed daily but it's good to know that I can still get it in the 5ft bed with the gate down. Silly Toyota Canada. 2016 was AccessCab only. 2017 we get the Double Cab but Short Box only. My guess is 2018 we get the Double Cab Long Box

I'm cofused I thought both the sr5 and limited come in DC Longbox
The only DCSB is the off-road model for auto

Yes, that's correct. Sorry I should clarify. I am specifically interested in the TRD Off-road, not the SR5, TRD Sport or Limited.

Looking for opinions on a new set of tires as the OEM TRD sport tires are horrible on icy city streets.
Wondering what all you fellow Canucks recommend outside of jumping to a straight winter tire?
Currently debating between the Falken Wildpeak AT3W in either a 245/75r17 or 255/70r17 both "C" rated or trying the Cooper ST Maxx in a 255/75r17.
Leaning towards the Falken because I can get get a set of four for nearly $200 cheaper than Coopers, just wish they were able to be studded.
I do mostly city driving but the city here rarely brings out the plows until February/March aside from the two main highways. I also do quite a bit of roads less travelled touring and driving on lesser maintained oil lease roads and logging roads from time to time.

Jaymes.....I'd say you should get snow tires... I do mainly hwy and town driving, but on occasion some deep snow... I run Michilin Latitude X-Ice.. They are fantastic ride on pavement (can't beat Mich. for the nice ride).. they are very good on ice of every colour... black/white/blue and clear....!! They easily handle up to about 30" of snow, but If I had to drive in that a lot and push snow with the Taco "chin", then I'd maybe go with a more aggressive tread.... Maybe a M/* tire.

Winter tires are much softer and grip ice way better then summers or A/T muds, etc... those just get too hard to grip right.
They are costly, but what's you and your truck worth..??

    Good luck

Congrats. You must be one of the first in this thread to get a 2017 4 door off road. I'm on the other coast and expect to be another couple weeks.
