This has probably been discussed elsewhere but I can't find it so...

The Toyota website shows quite a dramatic difference in MPG's on the TRD models.
24 for the sport and 20 for the OR. Would people say this is a realistic discrepancy? What causes such a difference? I'm on the fence and this could be a factor to consider.

    Thanks much

Not sure where you're seeing that? The brochure on Toyota's site shows them to be the same with the same config.

Both the Sport and OR 4x4 V6 Double Cab are rated at 18/23. The only thing that could make a difference are the OEM tires and the air dam on the Sport vs none on the OR. Might make a 1 MPG difference?

Where are you looking? I see 17/21 for the sport and 17/20 for the OR.

Check out Fuelly. Safe to assume you can drive "normally" and average about 19 to 20MPG. Depends greatly on how many miles are highway and what the speed limits are. MPG drops sharply after 70 to 75mph. On average you can probably expect about 1MPG better than the offroad in the same driving environment. Some people are squeezing out low 20s on average. I would guess those folks are driving with minimal stop and go, mostly highway speeds of 50 to 65 mph. City driving in Phoenix for instance is tough because the speed limits are usually 45mph (people doing 5 over on average) and then you have to stop between lights...so it takes a lot of energy to get up to speed then to just jam on the brakes again. Whereas some small town in the Northeast maybe the speed limit is 30 or 35 mph and you don't have a ton of stop lights in between = better mileage. But Fuelly numbers speak the truth in large part. The third gen is merely a very minor improvement over the 2nd gen in fuel economy for MOST drivers.

^ What Smitty said. I used to get around 18-19 sometimes 20 before switching wheels and tires. Now it's closer to 17.5 lately as my numbers are slowly going down. Especially if I hit up the turnpike or similar 75 MPH zone.

    Everything is in the sig.

It must be a typo on their site. It didn't make any sense to me so I thought I would ask.

Ah, looking back in that PDF it looks like they are quoting the V6 4x4 MT OR (17/20) and the V6 RWD AT for the Sport (19/24). Kind of dumb.

Check Fuelly for real world data on fuel figures. Plus the sports come with the upfront air damn to squeeze out some better fuel efficiency numbers on the highway. Tires also factor in.

    Many things.....

You are looking at an Auto vs Manual and 4x2 vs 4x4. Also, the OR is the only one without an air dam.

See my fuelly. That's as a daily driver and lots of slow off roading

If you want good gas mileage, you need to slow down

I've been at 99.9 after driving down a 20 mile road off a 10,000 foot mountain area... I can't seem to beat 99.9, tho

I just realized I've been on TW longer than you

It's not dumb, it's what he built on the website or what is available in his area based on zip code.

My stock TRDORDC I can't get over 16.4MPG. All interstate doing 75 for 9 miles, and back road mostly flat doing 60 for 8 miles. I still love the truck but my mileage SUCKS! My 15 Silverado I got 17.6 and 22 doing 55.
