there should be one on each joint of the front shaft, as well. But they come out the middle of the joint and are harder to grease

If you have zerks, you should have a 4 wheel drive. Do you have a 4 wheel drive truck?

You still have not told me if you drive a 4 wheel drive vehicle. You could have a 2 wheel drive Off Road.

You may have a front drive shaft that goes from the transfer box to the front differential if you have a 4 wheel drive. There is a zerk inside each of these Ujoints. They come from the middle and sit much farther inside the joint than the large rear drive shaft zerks.

You have a total of 5. 2 on the front shaft and 3 on the rear.

I wonder if you'll get any vibrations? Or if the transfer case is completely sealed So the grease will not work its way into the transfer case like the silverados and turn your transfer case into a brown mess?

It's a two piece driveshaft; slip joint is in the aft section.

Is this still an issue with the 17s? Gett'n a TRD 4X4 Sport, being built next week, should arrive 3rd week of November.

Just wondering if this is something to add to my "punch list" for the service department to do prior to me signing the check.

I know about the TSB for the auto trans fluid being possibly low, that's on my list. But not sure if this needs to be on the list too.

    Thanks
    Norma

@Normagene you will only have zerks on the front shaft and chances are your dealer will lie about servicing them (unless you have the 1 in 100, honest service department).

If I remember right, my front shaft had a bit more grease in them than the bone dry rears.

I had heard of the dry joints as well and picked up a grease gun and grease. I got under the truck and thought I was going insane. I didn't remove the heatshield but I did find the zerk on the front. Thanks for all the good info.

Just to give a little feedback on this topic, my 17 does not have any zerks like stated by a few members.

Ok, thanks. So how many zerks on the front shaft? Good news that the rest are sealed units.

I will crawl underneath and have a look for myself when I get it home. Ya, honesty doesn't seem to be their strong suit. I've gotten in a Big argument with the service manager before, he sucks.

I'm pretty sure it was 2. There's a heat shield that you may need to remove to access the last zerk (2 10 or 11 mm deep sockets will do the trick).

edit: the "yes sir" was an answer to the question: do u have a 4 wheel drive truck.

    i do have a 4x4 off road,
didn't realize they made a 2wd OR tho.

ok yeah i forgot to check the front drive shaft!

    ill look again today

so far i just found 1 zerk on each joint of the rear drive shaft (1 on each of the four sides on each section).
so 1 front, 1 middle and 1 rear

I have a 2017 TRD Sport 4x4 and only the front had zerks (2). They both took about 10 pumps to fill all the way. and it was 12mm socket, 2 bolts.

Yes, aside from setting regulations on the protection of water quality, air quality, toxic substances and pollution levels...you know to protect us from the shit that goes on in China with their lack of effective regulations. To protect us from cancer and shit....

Yes, you found 3 of 5 total. What grease gun do you have? I have trouble with the front shaft because it's very hard to tighten the zero fitting inside the u joint on the front shaft. I use pliers to tighten it
