Poll: Tacoma with Solid Axle and Turbo Diesel

Would you trade in your truck today if Toyota came out with a new Tacoma like this?

Some questions to consider, would you want a solid axle taco? Would you want a turbo diesel in it?

Please tell me what you think a reasonable price would be for this?







Who knows maybe Toyota will see there is a market for this kind of truck if we talk about it enough.

Yeah...I'd take both of those- Reasonable price is hard to say until it gets built. What size engine, what kind of features, etc etc.

 

I'm not sure about the diesel but the solid axle is a definite!!!

 

If they came out with a solid front axle my dealer would have the title to my 08 in his hands before he could blink

 

A nice powerful turbo diesel would be nice. It would be tons of fun to have the power of a tundra but the size of a tacoma... best of both worlds

 

Solid axle is GREAT for off roading if you build them right. but they kinda drive like shit and cant turn as tight which sucks. (factory ones) So if I only wanted to use the truck for an off road rig then yeah. But I'm not sure on that one. The turbo diesel would be nice though.

 

The reason I put this poll up is because I was doing some research/reading, and many of the car and truck review organizations were saying that they don't think there would be a market for something like a solid front axle and/or diesel Tacoma. But talking to some people I know, just the opposite was true. I figure, Toyota has to look at websites like these that are so specific regarding their product when doing research on their up coming redesigns. Maybe if enough buzz is generated over a period of time, they may consider it. It might be wishful thinking on my part, but it can't hurt anything to try right.

 

There are diesel Tacos out there. It is a 4 cyl and they are usually found in South America

 

I thought Toyota already sold diesel tacomas and/or tundras in other countries...
If Toyota brought diesel trucks to America they would give Ford Chevy and Dodge a run for their money.

 

Yeah, but would you pay $4k-$5k more for it? That's really the problem... to get a diesel to be able to be sold in the US it makes it SOOO expensive!

I think it largely depends on the buying market of these trucks,those that would want that option package is small in comparision to first time truck buyers that seem to be flooding this site with questions on ride quality and 4wd operation.The 'harsh ride' tsb is a prime example,Toyota opted for a car like ride to sell trucks,(and to save $ since most dont use the bed for much)those same buyers would not like a solid axle test drive IMO.In countrys where the Hilux is sold the truck is used MUCH different and owners demand alot more than most Americans in this truck segment.I would be stoked for that combo but I like offroad advantage over street handling.

 

As many as it takes to get Toyota to build one!

Really the main focus of this poll isn't the diesel option so much as it is the solid front axle.

 

I couldn't really give a shit about diesel.

... but a solid axle That IFS is by far my biggest complaint about the Tacoma. It massively limits suspension options, therefore limiting off road ability. Not to mention, I've already had multiple problems with the cv boots on my 6 month old truck.

 

A solid front axle with a locker would be beastly, i would trade my truck in ASAP for that.
