I did a Goggle search, and most of the posts I found said the same thing about the ECT switch, and the ECT switch is explained on page 198 of the owners manual.

What does the ECT button in my Toyota do?
Here at New Rochelle Toyota, we get a lot of questions on the workings and functions of Toyota vehicles. We thought that it would be helpful for our customers if we addressed one of our commonly asked questions here on our blog

If you’re the owner of a Toyota Tacoma, 4Runner or one of Toyota’s other performance-oriented vehicles, you might notice a button on your console that reads “ECT” on it. Here we’ll be addressing what the Toyota ECT button means as well as its function.

    Electronic Controlled Transmission
The ECT button in your Toyota toggles the electronic controlled transmission on and off. This transmission system uses hydraulics to actuate the clutches and bands, which are controlled by electronic solenoid, which simplifies the vehicle’s transmission while providing more advanced control.

With ECT, vehicles offer more elaborate control schemes. Not only does it monitor the vehicle speed and throttle position, the transmission controller can also monitor the engine speed when the brake pedal is pressed but the anti-lock braking system as well.

HAHA. I thought about the same thing actually.
Only 1 problem I found: I tried applying +12V directly to the tan wire, and It would not activate. somehow pin 4 and pin 2 must touch.

I am thinking about running a micro relay---tapping off the start signal wire(purple under dash)
which will activate a momentary relay making pin 2 & 4 touch. Only think is, I am not sure if the signal is too quick(before the truck has fully started)

push the ECT button quick at the exact same time you turn the key or push the start button which ever you have. if the ECT indicator is on when the engine starts then might be your answer.

sounds like your idea would keep it always in ECT mode and you would never have the option of not being in ECT.
i would like to use the folder switch on the right side of the steering wheel to control the ECT. you seen to be knowledgeable about that stuff any idea how to tap into that switch? i never use that switch and do not know what it even does.

I assume the bottom picture is the back side of the ECT switch, and it would be great to find a connector that would plug onto the wiring harness white connector which would make it really easy to run the wiring back to the center console for a relocating a new switch there. I would think that it is some industry standard type of connector.

AliExpress.com shows some Toyota connectors that looks to be the same style as these. I'm going to do some more searhing and see what I can come up with

Subscribed. One of you all finds a plug and play solution to always on ECT, I'm on board to buying it.

Try wiring it as a closed set of contacts instead. Meaning it'll be on every time you start the truck. Then you can hit the button to turn it off. Which would then be an open set of contacts

One thing to keep in mind is that the signal needs to be a single pulse. If you use a relay and hold it high the ecu will turn ECT off after 30 seconds. Not sure why they engineered that way.

A simple "one shot" will work.

Yes. I wedge a small piece of paper at startup and it initially came on, but then went off after about 30 seconds.

I did a second test where I simply held the button in while driving and it did the same thing.

That's why I'm thinking we need a one shot that produces a single pulse.

Not really. This method would toggle ECT whenever the shifter passed through N or the ECT button is pressed. No extra parts are required.

Post pics and such ! I hope it goes very easily for you. I bet you could even add an inline toggle switch after ward to choose how you want it to work . IE auto ECT or Not.

I'm thinking this will.work. The TD relay can be adjusted 1 to 10seconds.

If this does indeed work, it looks like all I'll have to do to relocate another NO momentary ECT switch to the center console in series with the ECT switch in the dash is tap into the 12v+ and ECU wires and run them back to my new switch on the center console.
