Lol. I can shoot a revolver just fine. I have a GP100 that shoots very nicely. But my draw-point-pull groups are tighter and faster with a semi, so that's what I carry.

As for energy, pretty sure that the average .357 is in the 500-550 range with a 4" barrel. A .45 or 9mm in a 4" generates in the 350-400 range, if memory serves, which means that the .357 is still only producing about 1/3rd more energy.

But, for personal defense you're generally talking about ranges of less than 10 yards, so 9mm/40/45/357 discussion is largely irrelevant. Placement trumps power, at those ranges. A correctly placed 9mm is just as effective as a correctly placed .357, in terms of lethality.

I didn't mean you personally, I should have said "if one can't" bottom line the way i look at it is "more is more".
Apple to oranges but an ethical shot on a deer takes a min if 1000lb/ft at impact; a .357 delivers more than that in 2 shots and most 9 .40 an .45 take 3 shots to break that threshold. Just my .02

I see deer as being twice as tough as humans and wont carry around that produces less than 500 lb/ft

Pointless to carry condition 3 unless you have no experience and or have a crappy nylon holster.

My search for an M1A scout in walnut was a bust so I broke down and ordered the FDE since it's the only one I can source. Fulton has unfinished walnut stocks for $100 so I think I'll make a project out of it.

The only thing that disturbs me is that this is CA compliant, maybe I'll add a drum mag, bayonet or rocket launcher to it.

Bullet energy has little to no bearing in a discussion about self defense against humans with handguns. Placement, penetration and expansion has a much larger effect on overall outcome of the shooting.

Additionally, the 1000ft/lb argument for deer is an arbitrary number established by various state regulations. Many, many deer have been killed with bullets impacting at lower energy levels. Again, the placement of the shot and performance of the bullet dictates effectiveness.

Again i suppose most of this comes down to opinions and personal preference, but im gonna carry a .357 because i can shoot it well and i prefer it over most other rounds. If someone else feels comfortable carrying .22 shorts or someone else wants to carry a 45-70 derringer more power (or less... See what i did there) to em

Totally agree. I carry a 45 rather than a 9mm out of personal preference. I know a 9mm will get the job done but I prefer to start with a bullet that makes a big hole even if it doesn't expand.

Ive been doimg some research on ccw guns and what caliber and so on. Found this very good article.
    https://www.personaldefensenetwork.com/article/when-does-a-380-beat-a-9mm/.

after looking at that article it all makes since. choose the biggest round that you can get down range as fast and as precise as you can. What is the point of having a 45 when you may only get a 2 or three in someone when you could have a eaiser to handle 380 that you can put 5 rounds all center mass. Now if you can shoot just as good with that 45 then all the power to you.

I have decided to go with a 9mm just because it is a bit bigger then a 380 which I kinda want because i know i will be a better shot, but i have decided to spend a good amount of time to practice alot to get good at shooting the 9. But if I knew i could never shoot good with a 9mm then i would go straight for the 380 no doubt.

saying that i want to know if there is any remarks on here about the beretta px4 storm compact in 9mm?

Besides the 10. The difference between the rest is very negligible. All will kill someone, and all won't, depending on shot placement.

True you can shoot at some one with a 30mm round, and have it not kill them if you miss. An effective shot is only as effective as it's placement.
