I live in Florida... who the hell really needs 4x4? Uh... Me w/ Pre-runner... stuck on beach, pulled out by 4 wheel drive beach patrol in a Taco 4x4.... ya ya... air down, you will be fine...
Yep 99% of the time I am... but.... I am tired after storm (Matthew) and want a little RR and to get my boat in our back yard I have to hope my p-runner / ground around house feels good today.. or Shovel, repeat, traction control off... blahaaaa
Hooked the boat to the wifeees wrangler...... bam.... 4 wheel drive took less then 4 minutes to have the boat in the yard.... Pissed now I didn't just get the damn 4x4. Rant over.......
Why again are there two wheel drive "trucks"......

and for the record if you don't live in florida, the second your wheels get below the "grass" you are buried in sand....South-ish Florida anyway.

We were on Ameilia Island last summer and I had to use my Tacoma to pull 2 vehicles back to pavement. Huge sign saying 4X4 only past this point and people did it anyway. Same issue in Daytona a few years earlier. This summer we drive to the Grand Canyon and end up out in the Utah desert on BLM land and find a stranded F250 pulling a stock trailer. His truck won't shift into 4X4 and he can't get enough traction to pull it up a steep dirt hill in 4X2. Gave him a pull too. Been driving 4X4's since 1977. I've never found a downside to choosing one over a 4X2 and it sure has saved the day for me and lots of others over the last 40 years

When I lived in Titusville and had my 4runner I had to rescue a Dodge ram that the 4wd didn't work. He buried it to where the back bumper was sitting on the sand... drug him up a pretty steep sugar sand Hill that was 400ish yards long back to the parking lot. After that, I pulled a boat out of the woods up the same Hill with the same strap. (It was a cub scout clean up event with my son). Had a great time. Who says Florida folks don't need 4wd :)

The beast that saved the Ram lol
