And that's reason #1 as to why I ultimately decided that I'd never make these to sell. On the same token, while I do think it increases risks in certain situations (a rollover being the greatest danger), I'd recommend taking into consideration all of the other potential missiles sitting around in your truck. Surely nobody on here as ever driven with a backpack of books, grocery bags full of food, the bag of goodies from the hardware store, a large, unrestrained dog, etc, in the passenger space of their truck ;) For me, the console was a compromise of between convenience and safety. At some point, try as I might to avoid it, I'll find myself looking at the radio or scangauge. The mounting location I chose was the best compromise I could come up with where I wouldn't have to sort the information I was looking for out of a clutter of other things on the dash console while still being able to keep my eyes close to the road.

My console was ultimately stolen out of my truck, with everything that was mounted inside. Judging from the amount of carnage left inside, it didn't go easy. Next go around I'd probably make it out of fiberglass and with a lower profile, mounting the radio somewhere else. I'd round the corners more to make them less pronounced (larger radius) and make the console narrower where it passes the heads of the driver/passenger. I would use the same mounting points as before.

Good point. Whenever I put a long object on my bed sticking into the cabin through the rear slide window I wonder how can I explain to my insurance that the windshield got broken from inside, not the outside :smack:
