I think my mother in law owned a forester once. Congrats on the new car.

I tried getting it. Was told it was not offered in any double cab option.

I also wanted an off road access cab manual transmission Tacoma, but settled for a Sport (and waited nearly 4 months for delivery). I plan to eventually upgrade it with a locker and suspension improvements which means it will end up costing considerably more than an OR manual access cab would have if it were available. I was also considering the Nissan Pro Frontier but the manual transmission is only available with the crew cab. Still, I have the basic truck I need and I feel thankful that I was able to get a manual transmission. By the way, if a manual truck were not available I would not have purchased one, and may have gone to a Subaru Forester. Also, used manual transmission vehicles are hardly an option since they are so rare. At one time I was considering a Nissan Pro Xterra but they were discontinued a year ago and I only found one manual version listed in nearly a year of looking, and that was with a national search, not just local.

Used stick shift trucks aren't all that much easier to find.

Same combo that we have. 2013 Crosstrek and the new Tacoma. How do you feel about your subaru? I kind of wished I had waited until I got to germany so I could have picked up the turbo diesel model.

Toyota has an extremely large stake in Subaru....so as mad as you are at them, you still gave thenm your money.

"So, after weeks/months of fighting City Hall, trying to get a suitable Tacoma in Canada, dealing with red tape piled upon redder tape, I've said -- enough. Enough. I'm done. No mas.

I bought an under-powered Subaru Forester. It has all-wheel drive instead of 4WD. It has 8.7" of ground clearance instead of 9.4
    "."

Subaru's are great vehicles and with a manual tranny, they are way better. Their CVT, or any CVT transmissions suck in my opinion. I know, my wife had a 2015 Forester with the "bucking" CVT.
But a Forester is not in the same league. An SUV vs. a truck. But, maybe that will fulfill your needs and that's what counts.

That would be the deal breaker for me right there.
The trailer method I could deal with.
    Congrats OP.
As far as the new model,
I'm just happy the Toyota finally added heated mirrors to the 3GEN. :)

Getting spiders is a possibility, didn't say it was ideal.

I had a guy come take some cottonwood from one I'd cut down (I prefer not to burn the stuff, it stinks) and he loaded the back of his Subaru with it. It took a shit load of it, probably just as much I'd put in the bed of my truck. It was his beater car so he didn't care but I gotta say much respect.

Truth is when I cut firewood I usually drag a trailer. It's easier to load and unload since I have a topper. So from that perspective a Subaru isn't much different.

I get the manual tranns thing, we went from VW's to Subaroooo because of VW's lack of manuals. Best part was when the sales lady tried to convince my wife the Tritonic (sp) was just like a manual trans. My wife, not a car person or even one to swear or get angry. Laughed at the sales lady, said "Fuck you its the same", got up, looked at me and said we are done with her. We left and drove to the Subaru dealership down the road.

Why not an outback? When we bought ours, we looked at the Forrester and felt the Outback was just a better vehicle, the Forester felt cheap. I know they have upgraded since then, so I would guess they are better now. And ya, why not just go to the double cab? As now you don't have a bed?
