Viair Compressor size pros and cons...

So, I want to get a portable Viair compressor for my Gen2 TRD Offroad 4x4 so I can inflate the occasional tires when I'm not home, as well as be useful when I get airbags. Truck has stock sized LT 265/70-16 KO2's (love them!)

can't quite decide which size I want. this will only get occasional use, although eventually I want to get the firestone airbag kit for this taco to aid when I'm towing my Casita trailer (3500 lb gross on the Casita). And I imagine there will be a few times off road where I'll want to air the tires way down, and inflate them back up for the road trip home, but offroading is a couple times a year thing for me, I don't get away very often (and there's very little dirt opportunity local to me).

Obviously, I need one thats got a long enough power cord and air hose to reach all around the truck when clipped to the battery.

would a 70P be adequate for the kinda very occasional use I'm talking about? or an 87P or 90P? or what...

and here I'd just about talked myself into the 88P. the 400P is like $200, and kinda bigger/heavier than I'd want to have to lug around at all times.

 

I doubt that the 400P is that much heavier than my VIAIR 300P Portable Compressor. The 300P runs about $130.

 

Curios as well, seems like viaair makes the best of the portables

 

300P is about 8 lbs, 400P Auto is 10.7 lbs.

the 88p I'm looking at is 4.75 lbs, but doesn't include a carry sack (and I dunno if the quoted weight includes the supplied bags or not)

the 88P is like $65, goes up to 120PSI, 1.5CFM, can run 25 minutes straight before it needs a cooldown, and will fill a 31x10.5 from 0-30psi in under 4 minutes.

 

I ran a 280C with a 3 gallon tank on my 06 DCSB. Patched a couple dozen tires on the spot....damn handy. Had to wait for the tank to refill, but with a 33% duty cycle, it wasn't bad at all. On my 13 DCLB, I'm toying with a portable, but since I may run an air horn again, a tank is needed. Damn handy for my airbags too.

 

I have the 88p and love it. I've used it to fill up all 4 tires on my truck from 15psi to 35psi and then handed it off to a friend to do their's right afterward, no issues with it's performance. It does get hot though but cools down pretty quick. It reaches all 4 tires while connected to the battery just fine.

 

Sorry to revive an old thread but I didn't want to start a new one since this one specifically was about Viaire. I just ordered the 300P because that's what I could get using some Christmas gift cards. Currently $112 on Amazon.

Couple of questions I have.
To air up 4 tires and with the 300P hooked up to battery, should I leave the truck running? Or can truck be off without running down the battery.

Also what exactly does 33% duty cycle mean?

viaair strongly recommends you run the truck while compressiong so you have a full 14V.

in viaair-land, 33% duty cycle means 20 minutes on, then wait 40 minutes to cool before using again. 20 minutes should be way more than plenty to fully air up 4 tacoma sized tires with that compressor.
