2017 vs 2016.....What's the difference?

Trying to buy add-on parts for my new 2017 SR5 like mud guards, etc. All the parts out there so far is like for the 2016's only. And a lot of sellers saying a lot of 2016 parts wont fit 2017 trucks. What's up with that? Are the 2 model years really all that different?

 

Virtually everything will fit. There are very very few differences, mostly with the sliding rear window and a few manufacturing differences with parts...but not much else from what I've seen.

 

Husky actually told me mud guards for a 2016 wouldn't fit my truck. They would only sell me guards specifically for my model year. I didn't buy them from Husky, another online retailer had em for less anyway......heh

 

They are the same, the only thing you have to watch out for is differences in submodels. For example a part made for TRD OR may not fit your SR5

 

So for example, a mechanical part like a TRD locker or wheels probably wont fit but I should be ok with most trim parts?

 

Not necessarily. For example, your mudguards, the trd models have fender flares while I believe your sr5 doesn't so there may be differences in the mudguards that you have to watch out for. What type of mudguards are you thinking of buying? They should mention on the website which submodels it will fit. As for difference between 2016 and 2017. Almost everything is the same. The only thing I've read that is different is power rear sliding glass, differential gearing, and locking tail gate.

 

Yes to the power sliding glass, but that's only on DoubleCab models SR5 V6 and higher. Differential gearing I don't know anything about, though I vaguely remember reading a thread about it where it seemed it turned out to be a misunderstanding or misprint? Do post up a link if you have it.

Tailgate locking - the 2017 tailgates are keyed to the same key as the driver door. A power lock add-on option is available at least in some places. It's by no means standard as far as I know.

If there are any other fitment differences between 2016 / 2017 I'm not aware of them. Mostly it seems just a matter of companies not having updated their websites. I bought 2016 WeatherTech mud flaps and they bolted right up on my 2017 TRDOR.

 

I have the SR5 appearance package so I do have fender flares, alloys, and a mechanical tail gate lock(not powered). These are the mud guards I'm looking at:

Since Husky is listing them for the 2017 according to the URL, I'm unsure what the question is? If a retailer is selling the same Husky part number as Husky is displaying, you should be good to go.

Well, its just that most trim parts like the mud guards (and some vendors) say they are specifically for 2016 models, which seems to be seriously limiting my choices for parts. I don't mind using a 2016 part if it fits and looks good, and it would suck (and be stupid) if I have to wait until next year for 2017 parts if I needed something. Maybe I was getting bad info or talking to the wrong people.

 

The Husky link you posted seems to be for 2017, which is why I am confused at your concern as to whether they will fit your 2017.

The Husky mud guards are the only mud guards listed as specific for 2017 that I have found. Husky would not sell me the 2016 parts. Every other set of mud guards I have looked at were listed as specific for 2016 or earlier.

 

Compare part numbers between 2016 and 2017...

I guess I spoke to the wrong guy at Husky, and the guy at Weathertech said he didn't have anything for me. Next time I'll ask everyone here before I go the store...heh

 

Huh? I'm seeing ITEM# 56941 front and ITEM# 57941 rear for both.

Yeah, weathertech told me the floor liners hadn't been verified, so I spent $101 on Toyota version out of principle. I bought my WT flaps via Advance Auto using a 30% coupon and would have simply returned them if they didn't fit up.
