We need to put together a group run up to Helen, GA. There are so many trails up there.

Bell Mountain! Charlie's Creek is closed last I heard though. There are some TW members up there that could play guide and give us the low down. Camping would be strictly primitive though from what I've seen.

I'd love to do that, but I don't think I'd want to drive the OGT that far to go wheeling. It's a long way from home if I break something that can't be fixed trail-side, or if, gawd forbid, I roll her.

Not really anything crazy technical and the only way to roll the OGT would be by going off the side of the mountain.

I just ran Charlies Creek in August. Bell Mountain is now paved halfway up from what I've heard. FSR58 near Dahlonega, Winding Stair Gap, Flatland Rd, Dicks Creek, Indian Grave Gap Rd, Corbin Creek Rd, and Chimney Mtn Rd are all badass.

Haha, I'm not discounting anything that might happen that far from home. :D Even without rolling her, she could still blow an engine, grenade a tranny (after making sure it's a guy of course :rimshot:) or strip the teeth off the ring and pinions.

Sounds like you know your way around that area perty good. I'd definitely like to do something like that. I'd just have to work up the nerve to ask my uncle if I could borrow his truck and trailer to drag the OGT up there.

Lmfao! Had to go there, didn't you?

I went up in August and ran a bunch of the trails. Tray Mountain is kind of the central location. Chimney Mtn Rd, Tray Mtn Rd, and Indian Grave Gap all converge at the top of Tray Mtn. 20 miles north is Hiawassee and Charlies Creek and on the way is Brasstown Bald. Dicks creek and Flatland are between Dahlonega and Helen. I hit all of those trails in 2 dayy. The campsites are primitive but amazing. FSR58 has several really large campsites. Dicks creek is full of campsites and there are several at the bottom of Chimney Mountain Rd. On top of Tray Mtn, theres enough room for at least 10 campers.

They also said to have a permit pulled if a lot of truck are coming. The permit is free. It's just a heads up to them so they can plan it out.

K' here's my reasoning on this subject...

From the Forestry Service's website for Holder Mine...

We are not a formal group. We don't pay membership dues. We have no club officers. The expenses of the trip are not coming out of club coffers. And we're certainly not organized, haha. We're just a group of folks with a common interest getting together on a certain date. We don't have to have a permit/authorization.

Basically what they are trying to do by telling us that crap is give them advanced warning we're coming so they can call in an ass load of FWC officers to shadow us around all day to make us feel unwelcome. They did it at the 2015 Annual Meet when we stayed at Tillis Hill (which requires reservations, so they knew a big group was coming months in advance). Saturday morning the campground "day use" parking lot was packed with FWC and they were all over the park writing citations. BTW, we held the Annual Meet at Tillis Hill for the first 2 annual meets I attended and we never heard anything about having to have a permit (because they already had warning that a big group was coming). Basically it's a cock and bull story, and I, for one, don't intend to make it easy for them to make things hard on us. ;)

Edit: if we were organized, we'd damn sure be lobbying the legislature to get rid of whatever jerk in the Forestry Service and/or the FWC that has a hate-on for the Off-road community and give us some designated off-road trails to run at Citrus like the motorcycles and ATVs have at Croom.
