I pretty much have all the common "bugs" associated with the 3rd gens, delayed shift, constantly searching for gears, rear end whine, vibration in the pedals and steering wheel, etc. couple that with near Prius horsepower, I've pretty much decided to trade it, thinking about a 2500 Silverado. I want something that will go when I press the gas pedal and a 2500 should definitely do that, especially if I get the duramax. I've been a die hard, nothing but Toyota owner since I was 16, I'm now 34 but I gotta say I'm dissapointed in the 3rd gen. I sure hope they make some improvements.....

Sorry to hear you're disappointed but comparing a Tacoma to a 2500 Silverado with a Duramax is like comparing Mars to Venus. If you're a Die hard Toyota fan have you looked at the Tundra? It would be a little more comparable to the Silverado. I'd have one myself if it would fit in my garage.

Get a Tundra, that 5.7L V8 with 381HP is pretty powerful, also it sounds amazing

    Too few to list.
Since you're paying for something you're not happy with, do what makes you happy. I've had a Silverado 4x4 with the 5.3 for 4 years and aside from a battery and guauge bulb replacement under warranty, no other issues. Personally if I was buying a Silverado, I'd go 1500 with the 6.2 if buying gas. I think with the 2500+, you either get 6.0 or diesel. I test drove a 6.6L Turbo Diesel and loved it but just too much of a truck for my need.

Sounds like you want big HP/torque with a diesel. I came from that world and don't regret it. Yeah the 3rd gen has its issues but having a small truck is nice to run around town. Unless you absolutely need a big truck I would stay with a midsize truck. After having my diesel for a year I couldn't justify keeping it. I never used it for what its meant for. Like previous post said since your a Toyota fan why not upgrade to a tundra

I would think you would get a better trade up for a Tundra, rather a trade in for a Chevy. What ever works for you. The empty seat in your Tacoma wont be empty for long. You will make allot of money for someone.

Sorry to hear your Taco has problems. I thought about trading mine too, but I got the TSB done and it made a big big difference. I use the ECT all the time so it does have power with the button pushed in. Also with ECT turned on and TSB done: mileage went from 16 mpg to 19+mpg.

I like this forum and I have to ask OP- what is the point of your thread? A Toyota owner for 18 years and a member of TW for 3 months, now moving on- but can't get out without a parting shot?

Almost sounds like you have buyer's remorse and just nitpicking on the minor issues to justify your remorse.

The fact that you're looking to change into a 2500 means you bought the wrong truck to begin with.

I've been in the same shoes as you, and my advice is to get what makes you happy as long as you can financially support it.

Silverado 2500 to Tacoma is apples to oranges. I got rid of a Silverado 1500HD with a 6.0 when I got this Tacoma and have no regrets. The Tacoma does everything I used the Silverado for except that the Tacoma burns less fuel, takes up less space in my garage and is easier to park in town.

If you don't like the Tacoma sell it.

So many people complain about the power of the Tacoma, I'd respond with something I saw here: use more go pedal!

Why don't you give Toyota a chance to fulfill their warranty and fix your truck first

If you haven't had the shift point tsb done you need to. My truck was, to quote consumer reports, "like a stumbling zombie."

My reverse to drive delay was stupid. Since the flash I have no complaints. Need more power.... hit the gas. I'm coming from a first gen tundra, smooth as butter, 4.7 v8.

Not sure why trucks are still needing this due to it being a known problem. But if you need it, it will make a huge difference.
