not to hijack this thread, but curious if anyone knows if these flares can be added to an SR5 without any drilling?

    A real PITA.

On the Plasti-Dip thread a guy w/a IO dipped his. Think he broke one or two of the clips, and said it was a real pain to remove.

Much easier to dip them attached he said.

But if you can find someone who wants to swap, just be carefull when removing.

The flares are considered non-reusable, which means you stand a good chance of breaking the tabs that the clips are mounted to trying to take them off.
They are also attached with double sided tape, so you need use heat to help get then off.

I broke 2 tabs between all 4 flares...I used the 3m double sided tape to reattach in those areas. You do not need a heat gun to remove them. Even and consistent pressure will get the job done.

Why buy a sport if you want the black fender flares? Everything beside the rims are the same and the flares (that you want to change). Unless you get a OR without tech and it has the chrome bumper caps but it's easier to change those out to the black ones, and or paint them. Plus your getting crawl control, electric brake assist and a locker. Unless I'm missing something I don't get it. Especially to the guys doing it buying new wheels and tires.

edit: Oh the front bumper piece is different and it doesn't have the wind deflector. Also the shocks, but I think the OR rides smoother. But if you want black flares, odds are you will want the black bumper piece too. If someone wants the wind deflector, lots of people selling their from the sport. Just seems so much easier to get the OR

Naw I prefer the black trim on the off road.

The sport can have the color matched imo.

The bad news for me was the black plastic fender trim is as fragile as cake frosting. Mine were scratched to death on my first off-road adventure.? At least if they were painted I could wax , compound and buff . Now after I was my truck I get to admire my haggard fender trim.

Plasti holds up pretty well. Obviously if you scratch it hard enough that it would scratch paint, then it will damage. But for everyday wear and tear, it holds up excellent. If anything your protecting the paint from nicks/chips from normal road rash.

Three years plus on two of my vehicles, car washes, husband washes using a small power washer, not one of those that can take the paint off, one of those small ones made for washing cars/boats etc..

Still looks great, he did use a sealer a couple days after dipping, and then the next day's waxed it with one of those fake waxes like once a year stuff, three coats.

Prefer the Sport, won't be Off Roading, so I don't need any of those features.

In place, I'm not going to remove them, I'll be done dipping them in the time it would take just to remove.

Easy to mask off the area, leave an inch or so around the area, six coats minimum, then a couple days later apply a coats of sealer, and next day a couple coats of that once a year fake wax stuff.

Same here. Before I bought mine, I was seriously considering getting the Sport strictly due to the painted overfenders, but really wanted the OR options. Then after seeing some OR's where the cheesy stock wheels were replaced with aftermarket black ones, it changed the whole look of the truck for the better and now to me the black overfenders are the only way to go. With the painted ones, it's just too much color, IMO. I really like how the black adds contrast and breaks up the paint, but only when matched with all-black wheels. Now whenever I see a stock OR around town, I say to myself, "dude needs to get himself some black wheels on that truck."

Yeah don't remove them to dip...that's a wasted effort. Just tape the majority and peel off overspray. I would probably just hang a well cut trash bag in the fender well to keep overspray from the undercarriage/wheel.
