The AC TRD Sport MT has traction control, 4x4 and limited slip so it is not completely useless off-road.

Nope sorry, only 32 problems there, the 2016 has 46 listed, so it is by far an absolute POS, don't even look at it as it may make your gen 2 sick, and I have heard the gen 1s will not even start if they are near a gen 3

I'm not going to hold my breath. On the 2016's over half are powertrain related and the vast majority are complaining about the transmission upshifting a lot (use ECT button), delays in drive engaging (TSB fixed already), and manual transmissions getting stuck in gear (tsb fixed)...soooo...looks like any other new model year vehicle.

The 1 2017 you just linked is fixed with the TSB.

Folks like yourself are just creating an echo chamber. I'm sure you love it as it helps you feel more secure in your aging vehicle and that's fine, but I'm elated with my truck and would advise OP to take advice with a grain of salt.

I pop for a 2016 double cab off road short box with the jbl tech. I love it best looking truck around. I wanted the locker and the phone goodies, so that's the package I went for. Also great amount of after market support already for the gen 3. I do see that the 17's have a power slider option now that looks cool. Go drive one, take it for awhile and get a feel for it. But no problems for me. I still bought one after reading the issues on this forum.

Test drive, and decide from there. Even though I've had issues, they've been fixed, and I would definitely buy again. If this exact truck was manual, it would be perfect, but the auto after tsb is much better. I love this truck.
