If you get a manual you will not get the ATF cooler but I had zero issues towing my sisters '05 RAV4 when it had issues.

    First, welcome.
Second, holy crap -- looks like your first gen was a well-maintained beauty. Sorry for your loss of her.

And third -- I'd go for the 3rd gen in a heartbeat. Just read up on what issues a few people are having and go in with your eyes open. Chances are you and your new truck will be fine. Don't get scared off by the overplayed horror stories you might read here; even when I bought my 2013 there were scary threads on TW about shuddering when coming to a stop, lousy leaf springs, etc. But honestly my truck has mostly been fine and I love it. I have zero interest in trading it for a 3rd gen, though I do love that interior....

OK, now that I'm a veteran member of the forum, how do I stop every response from generating an email? :)

    1. TRD off road - rear elocker / crawl control TRD sport - hood scoop

    2. The one you posted is a SR5 with an appearance package which includes wheels, tires and steps.

    3. I would suggest just going to Toyotas website and going through the build tool to see all the options.

I went to the TX State Fair last night and sat in a TRD Off Road that had a sun roof. I have a 2016 TRD Off Road without a sunroof. The sunroof is nice, but it takes out a good bit of headroom. I think I like having the extra headroom more than I would like the sunroof.

The bed is fiberglass composite, for the record. Same as the 2nd gens. I haven't been able to hurt it.

Get the new truck. It will be nice no matter what generation it is. As with any vehicle purchase, spend a good bit of time driving it, and be sure to really look it over.

It's been a couple years since my purchase, so I can't speak for the trans cooler. I remember the towing package being a separate option on the second gen.

My '17 TRD OR came with "Goodyear's Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar®" for tires. No telling what any given dealer might change I suppose, but I think Toyota supplies the TRD OR with the Wranglers. I've only had mine about 1200 miles, but I love it so far. I haven't had any issues.

Also, don't be scared of the composite bed. I've been using them since 2005 for construction, and they preform well.

When I looked at all the different trim levels, I settled on an SR5, and spent $2000 for a leveling kit, rims, and tires. I couldn't see paying $43K for a Pro, and the difference for the Off Road. I won't be doing any serious off-roading. I wanted wider wheels than any of the packages offered from the factory, including the Pro. I figure I got a truck that looks better then an off road or Pro for less money. I don't have some of the off-road options like crawl, that almost nobody uses anyway, so I don't miss them. I do miss the power sliding rear window. There is a huge different in the towing capacity with the tow package, so I would say that's almost a must. I love my Factory Tonneau cover.

That's what I wanted, but the 17's had just came out and there wasn't any with the equipment I wanted. Tow pkg, and Tonneau cover.

I got it..... Get the TRD Sport with M/T - you get the big rear diff a tow package, factory bed cover (maybe they stopped that on the 17's) tech package with the big screen. Then upgrade to an OR and lift it with Bilstein 5100s and 885 springs.... looks bad ass with the skewp wider wheels and tires. Looks even better than the pro..with the pro grill!!

If you wanna keep it stock get the OR with M/T, if you can find one.

I sold mine and wish I had it back. Mine due to set comfort but from position not seat. I am getting another I liked it a lot. I got diesel Colorado now but I put on lots of miles so I am getting a 17 off road and split miles and fix it up as my off road toy.

I've had a few of the issues with my 16 within 5k but they've all been since resolved and I don't regret buying at all.
