255/80/17 cooper discoverer ST MAXX. 204 on fleabay

 

So thats the size to go with is there that much of a difference from the 255/70 to the 255/80

I think I'm gonna go with the 255/70 I don't feel like dropping a G on some tires. Especially when 90% of my driving is on pavement

Don't listen to @The Hunter his brain is salty from many nights out to sea.

Also it's common thought that welding the frame is bad. It's not. There are already many many welds on the frame from when they assemble the damn thing lol. Done wrong yes you can have a mess on your hands but like anything else done right it's fine.

I suggest using jackstands and wood to hold the slider up where you want it. Then trim and Tack the legs and plates on but don't weld anything to the frame. This way you know everything is exactly where it needs to be. Then take them down and weld completely and paint. Once they are dry weld the completed slider to the frame and paint the welds.

So the 285 is basically the same size as the 255/80. It's just a wider tire. Damn the decision I have to make

 

255 looks bad ass. Probably not as good on sand but if you are looking at st maxx you shouldn't be concerned with sand.

I agree, this is what i did as well. We had jackstands and wood under the inner rail of the slider and then the outer rail was held up by tie downs hooked to the handles on the ceiling of the cab, this way you can adjust the angle to your liking. the plates we clamped to the frame for this part. Then tack them, remove, weld, paint, then weld the whole thing to the frame like steve said
