Going with Focal instead of Kicker. Installer said Kicker's are worse when I called to tell him I was ordering Kicker. Crutchfield is great. Letting me return the speakers and only charging $10 for the swap, plus the difference in price. They have always given me good advice, not so much on the JL's this time.

Everyones ears are different. I dropped 2k on Focal components up front, and coax for the rear in my Impreza. Also added a Focal amp. Parts were 1K, labour was 1K. I didn't think it sounded a whole lot better then stock. I feel the HU is often the biggest issue, but none of us want to give up its features for sound, so we live with it. Same as most, music sounded much better off my phone via bluetooth vs radio(it sucked balls). If I touch my new truck, I'll do a processor first, then maybe sub, and speakers. I'll also do it myself, more work, but a big savings if you have the time. Lots of good info on here.

Yep, it was a Focal as well. Don't remember the numbers, but it was what the shop recommended.

Can't you install a third part HU and retain control of the truck through idata and maestro adapters, etc?

your comment bums me because I am on the verge of setting up a focal system with subs and a new HU. What will I be losing?

I really think the issue is with the installer. He has been in business for years and always does a great job, but I think his install is the problem. The Focals will sound better, if for no other reason than they are 6x9 and not 6 3/4 speakers. The Front door Focals are specifically designed for the Tacoma. They even have TOY in their part number. I'll give him one more shot to make it right. If he tells me the Focals are the problem, I'll get a 2nd opinion.

He told me I needed to order some type of converter because I have the factory radio. Crutchfield told me that is built into the AMP I bought. That may be the issue. I have no idea.

Does anyone know the speaker size for a double cab front and back? Possibly the tweeter size too? I have a double cab sr5 non jbl/touch screen.

Dear god where do you guys go to get installs done? 1k for labor is bullshit. And if you dumped that much money and it didn't sound a lot better your installer was an idiot as well and doesn't know what he was doing. I run Focals up front and they sound amazing, are are nowhere near the K2's that cost $2,000.

Got any of that old equipment laying around?

6x9 in the front and 6 3/4 in back I believe. www.crutchfield.com will be able to tell you. Can chat with an agent if you can't find it on the site.

Still that's a lot for an install as that's about $750 US. I've never charged more than $250 for a TW member to do a full install of their equipment. Most of the time I just show up to help and end up doing most of the work for beer and food.

Took me a solid weekend and searching Tacomaworld to build harness, build an amp rack that fits behind factory rear seat to fit amp/loc, replace speakers, and add a 10" sub & box behind passenger rear seat. Sounds 100% better. No comparison to stock or JBL.

I love seafood. I live in the desert so I'm always trying to find a good place to eat seafood.

I just like installing stereo's. I did it as a job for ages, it's been my hobby since I was 13 years old. It's always fun to help out someone who doesn't know anything about it. Then to see their face when they first hear their new stereo.

I looked on the site of what would fit my truck and only sizes it gave was 6 1/2 and 6 3/4 for both front and back. But I did see a couple people say on here they are 6x9 up front...just want to make sure.

The holes are pretty big. You can fit anything as long as you buy the right adapter plate. Most people run 6-6.5" component or coaxial speakers.

Crutchfield show 6x9's will fit. I ordered the 6x9 Focal's below that are supposedly made for the Taco. The 6 3/4 did not sound good. I am upgrading the speakers and adding an amp so I don't have to add a sub to get decent sound. I may have been better off leaving the factory stuff alone and adding just a sub. Expensive lesson if that turns out to be the case.

I am very impressed with the jbl sound on the truck, I'm not sure if there is a subwoofer somewhere that I am missing, anyone know of one. It's very possible I have missed it.
