@CVYota Andy i'm beginning to think about armor and stuff for the future so i can plan and begin saving. i'm having an issue with finding solid recomendations because of the 4cyl i'm wanting to keep the weight down yet provide good protection and was warned away from aluminum skids. Is there anyone you can think of who would be good to reach out to. most advice i've recieved so far is to get steel and face a regear which is not in my financial grasp rt now or in the near future. thanks

Good evening all. Had a busy week so far of preparing a new boat dock for service and actually getting it in the water and open for the public today...another satisfying project is done! Put in 13 hours Monday, then my normal 10 yesterday and today. 4-10's are nice though it's not often I can only work my 40 hrs. Maintenance is on going and repairs can't wait. But I've got the best job out there...almost.always out in the field and rarely redundant.

The talk about Santa Ana winds and spot fires reminds me of the 03 and 07 fires. We lived in El Cajon for those and they both started this time of year and under similar weather. Hope you guys don't have to go through those again.

The 03 and 07 fires up here were very bad and local residents still talk about them today

They were pretty intense. During the 03 fire all highways were closed around San Diego except I-5 south to Mexico for quite a while. I stood on my apt roof and we had fire on 3 sides of El Cajon. They say 07 was worse, but from where I was, 03 was worse. But neither is anything I'd want to go through again.

It was pretty much on fire from San Bernardino County to the border.

I used to live in Santee in the early 90's and remember some bad brush fires back then

You can go with an aluminum front bumper but skids and sliders should be steel. But if you are not doing any serious off roading then you may not need it. The easiest and maybe cheapest would be lca armor, that is probably the best (anti) bang for your buck. The next would be a front skid and a mid skid but I don't know what that would do to a 4

just what I need to do what I want
@Casper66-There are some ways I was trying to get armor but not weigh down my truck. I am 1st gen 4WD and V6 but still don't want a negative hit to my gas mileage, brakes, or accelleration. I built my mid and t-case skids from .120 steel, using 1 1/4" rectangle steel for the crossmember behind the t-case. (reference boxrockets build for great pics and write up) saved a good amount of weight with that. I used my stock front skid. I am trying to come up with a design to use single tube sliders with .120 wall 1 1/4 round tubing. I do not like stepping out over traditional-style skids, so it would just be alittle something to cover the rockers. I should also note that I am really nice to my truck and these things are for the 1x oops and not there to go beat on. Tube bumpers are tough and weigh a lot less than plate. Front tubes require cutting the frame ends welding, and repositioning your washer tank, blacking out behind. One thing I have discovered is that one mod often leads to many other have to's. Armor and bigger tires-then upgrade the brakes, winch-then a second battery etc.

    Morning.
    Well another curve ball.
I just got my Dr trained and now she is leaving the practice to go to another field of medicine.
So they are setting me up with another one. So I can see the first meeting will be very awkward for her as she will want a battery of test to get the money flowing or her acceptable readings will be different than my old dr. Dam, it's like a broken in chair you get I'd of.
But I am at ease at saying no all day long so I guess it's a non issue.. Lol
Started sanding my frame and prepping last night. Actually just a couple of spots. No rust just the paint has flaked off so just going to prep and paint and will hit it with my fluid film this weekend. Oil and rotate and I'm good.
Boat goes away Saturday and bike goes away Sunday. Made a set Of light duty battery clamps to connect my two batteries in the boat together to use one battery tender.
Then I'll have room to arrange the garage for winter.
Ahhhhhh it never ends my friends as you all know. Have a good day

Yes I trying to avoid the snowball effect I suffered whe I started working on my old car. I've got a good line on a second hand set of sliders I may end up making my own skids. I guess first I ought to get out on some trails and see what it's like here so I don't go overboard I may see some of it is un necessary I do think if I get overtime this winter I'm going to save for an aluminum front bumper. Andys suggestion of lca skids also makes really good sense
