See my problem with when people say that is, ya maybe right now it seems that way. But on those Cup runs, you simply do not win the Cup without him, it's that simple. He probably could've just as easily won Conne Smythe in '12. So while that may be a true statement on the surface, you can't discount what he did for the franchise during his captaincy and when the contract was first given etc. I still believe he has a rift with Sutter which is a lot of why he has dropped off.

People (to a lesser degree) say the same thing about Kunitz here in PGH. I always laugh because sure, maybe last year he wasn't living up to his contract. But for most of his time here, he was playing above what anyone could've ever expected to get out of him. So you really can't be pissed when the dude has a down year. In both scenerios, while the contract might be a bit of a setback currently, they already were worth the investment with the good years and Cups that went with the initial investment. Sometimes you have to eat that later down the line.

 

So this isn't a LA Kings thread right?
