Before I get crucified by everyone on here, I am posting under this title to get everyone's attention. We all love to complain on forums, but instead of asking Toyota to read TW why not take our complaints directly to them.

I just got off the phone with Toyota, I was filing a complaint about my 2016 transmission and telling him how unhappy everyone was, and the tech said to have everyone on here call and complain because thats how they generate TSB. The steps to do so are below:

    1. Go to www.toyota.com/support/contact-us
    2. Scroll down and click Email Us
    3. Write your complaint, include your phone number, and a Toyota representative should contact you within 1-3 days.

LETS GET THE ERRATIC SHIFTING ISSUE AND TERRIBLE SHIFT POINTS FIXED!!!!!

Please everyone, take 5 minutes and email them so we can all get this issue finally resolved.

P.S. I have the recent TSB installed, it did not fix the hunting and early shifting issues I am talking about.

I had the TSB and mine drives great now. Completely changed my experience with the truck. I guess I can send an email and thank them for fixing the problem.

Going to get the transmission TSB done soon.

I drive mine mostly in "S Mode" and this works good for me.

Seeing as you had the tsb done and said nothing about them throwing a 1/2L more oil in there.... or even checking the actual level. I'm going to let you determine what might still be wrong.

Had them check that 5 months ago when the truck only have 500 miles on it before the TSB was available, according to the dealership it was filled to proper capacity

Let me clarify, I have read pages and pages of posts where people are complaining that their truck upshifts going up hill or when coming into a corner causing the truck to lug and subsequently causing the truck to downshift or that it shifts to quickly while accelerating causing the truck to lug and feel like it has no power. These are what I mean when I say erratic shifting and terrible shift points. If you are not experiencing these problems then congratulations, maybe you got a unicorn of a truck, but considering the 2016 transmission issues topic has DOMINATED TW for the better part of a year now, I am just trying to spread the word to all those unhappy owners out there and hopefully get Toyota to change it for those that want it. Thats the beauty of a TSB, its not a recall, if you don't want it then you don't have to install it.

I read a thread recently about a possible TSB for this, TT-0390-16. I searched the internet and didn't find anything, I am going to call my local dealer later and ask them about it, I'll let you know what I find out.

For what it's worth, I've been shopping trucks for a couple of months now and the gas v6 Chevy and gmc trucks get the same complaints about shifting. Also i recently rented a car, a Toyota Carola 2016 and it also had the same behavior. It wanted to be in too high a gear ,and if your pushed the gas gradually to get more power it would suddenly downshift and take off like you floored it. There was no middle ground. I guess my point is, i think manufactures are setting the shift points like this on purpose to get improved epa fuel mileage scores. Interestingly when i test drove the Colorado diesel, which makes 300-something ft lb of torque at only 2000rpm, it really drove nice with excellent shifting. Anyway, my point is this seems to be common with current gas automatics across brands, but I'm not sure why.

You know what...you may have a very valid point there. I can tell that these trucks present a different driving experience than the gen2 or gen1 . I don't think I have a shifting problem with my 2017 but I can tell when I have it in D you do have to really press the gas pedal hard to get her going. Once she reaches over 40 mph she drives sort of smoothly. I also notice when I put her in S mode I do not have to really press the gas pedal hard to get her to really move. Also, if I put it in ECT mode she accelerates quick. I do realize that ECT is mainly for up hill driving or towing. I also notice that when I am in D I get better MPG as opposed to driving in S mode. I conducted a test recently in that I drove 1 week in D and 1 week in S the same exact route and my MPG were slightly better driving in D. I am about ready for my 5000 mile check up and I will have the dealer look into it and see what they suggest. Overall I am pretty happy with the truck and I have yet to experienced some of the QC things I read here on TW. I just want my off and on howling differential fixed. I do understand there is not TSB for it yet but I want this to be documented during my 5000 mile check up

I think the problem I notice is honestly more the throttle than the transmission. When you hit the gas in this truck, there is a momentary delay before anything happens. A fleeting second or so, then there is an audible "hiss" sort of sound, and then it goes. This is all less than probably a half second, but it's enough to be annoying. You can put it in neutral and it's the same deal. Takes a bit to respond. You'd think there would be no noticeable delay, since it's electronic. But who knows.

So after the TSB does it accelerates fine without pressing hard on the gas pedal

Yes throttle response is great now. I did install k&n drop in filter. That helped alot. It will squeal the tire now from a stop when u nail it.

TSB didn't solve that for me, it did solve the R to D delay, that's the only difference I notice.
