Chas, this is what mine looks like if I put my last rail like yours is... You can see the gap that I mentioned before.

Yep, that's why a lot of folks seek to buy from someone they can meet up with and swap stuff out in person. Just because there's a way to make this a pain in the ass isn't an reason to avoid doing it the much easier way.

The gasket is folded under along that gap area. Just loosen the bolts and pull that up so it covers that gap. Happened on mine as well.

The gasket is just barely folded under. If I straightened it out, there would still be a gap between the edge of the gasket and the bed liner on the inside. That space is too big, no way would it be watertight.

I kinda have a complicated situation. Wife and I own a second house that we live in during the weekends (planning on transitioning there permanently as soon as we find work). So, we are travelling a lot - at least 250 miles round trip per weekend. I traded a Chevy Silverado Crew Cab for my Tacoma DCSB last week. My Chevy had a Diamondback bed cover on it. I LOVED that cover. Thing is, I can't afford one now for the Toyota as they have stopped making their lower priced covers and, as everyone knows, every bed cover is a compromise in some way. I was constantly battling with the Diamondback when moving furniture about taking it off and either hauling a panel around with whatever I was trying to move or just leaving it at one house or another (and inevitably I'd have one panel on and one off the truck and it looked dumb + was a MPG killer like that). Plus the center piece just got in the way most of the time. I found myself pulling one of my trailers for small items that I could have easily put in the bed if the cover wasn't there and wasting a ton of gas in the process.

I have owned trucks for over twenty years and have had some version of every single bed cover concept out there, including a camper shell. I've yet to find any one of them to be PERFECT.

I have to have something, though, to cover the bed so I can travel back and forth between houses and haul myself, the wife and the dog (who believes she owns the back seat). It needs to be as weatherproof as possible (really don't want my skivvies getting wet). I want to be able to stop for a potty break without being terrified somebody is going to steal whatever is back there while I'm doing my business. I need to be able to remove it quickly/easily to move furniture and with the small bed I need to be able to access it all. I've stopped at a couple truck accessory places and looked at their floor samples. For example, I liked the Undercover Flex and the Bak Flip covers but I hated the large rail system that had to be permanently mounted in the truck. Maybe it was just the floor sample but it seemed like it stuck out a lot and took up too much room. I have the Diamondback from my chebby for sale and I hope to get a few hundred dollars out of it to put towards the new cover but I am pretty appalled by how much some of these covers cost for what you are actually getting.

My Tacoma does have the factory cargo management rail system.

    Thoughts? Recommendations?

Well, I don't know what to tell you. The rail is supposed to be level so you can rotate the rail a bit to the right (as pictured) so it moves the gasket a bit more over the cap. The seal should be sufficient and the cover extends beyond the gasket when in place. good luck with it.

Call Truxedo or email Rhonda with the pictures. They are very nice to deal with.

I sent Rhonda pictures and she responded that she needs more photos and also stated she thinks it is not installed properly. So I will get the photos she needs and see what she comes back with.

    Good deal!

These covers really repel the rain nice. Just came in from picking all the wet leaves off my truck and admiring the paint sealant I put on it a couple weeks ago. Lo Pro had water beaded up on it just like my paint.

I have a Rugged cover soft tonneau, it comes off quickly, they make a hard tonneau, that mounts in a similar way, the soft one can be removed or installed in about 5-10 minutes, if the hard one mounts the same way, it should be just as fast to remove or install, it might require 2 people depending how much it weighs but the soft one is easy for one person to manage. I was able to use the tonneau from my 09 truck on my 16 model, just had to change the rubber seals on the front and rear of the cover. It's been used for four years and is still in great shape, I think they have a good warranty but have never had any problems. Plus the shop I got it from is 5 minutes away and as a great selection of accessories for most popular models of trucks and competitive prices and they stand behind what they sell. They also have a well stocked firearms business in the same building, a country boy's toy store, pickups and guns, great place to thin the wallet.

Sheesh, all ya need is to open a bait shop and a beer store next door and it'd be a country-boy trap.

My Rugged hard one is arriving tomorrow. I had the soft one on my '09. The soft one was waterproof and dustproof. I'll let all know how the hard one compares.

If I would of bought a Undercover SE or Elite I was going to buy it from my local truck supply for the same reason you stated. If I were to have problems with it they told me just bring it in and we will fix it. No need to contact the maker..

i have the rugged cover II as well, (hard tri-fold) and it works great. It has been on for 11 months (got truck in Nov. 15). I have yet to have any water in my bed and the lights are really bright!

My old truck had the soft cover and I liked that one just as much this. The handles broke once or twice (where the screw enters for twisting the handle) and I called rugged cover who then promptly sent me about half a dozen replacement handles for free.

Installed Rugged II Hard Tri-Fold tonneau. A little annoying to install, but not bad. Not totally sure where exactly it should fit as far as front to back goes. Tailgate closes, but not sure how water/dusttight it actually is until the bed dries up and I drive in rain. Gives me the look I wanted though. Screwy clamp things could use a little more length to them, and a stopper at the end so if you loosen them too much that they won't fall apart.

Anyone here have the Revolver X2? Wanted to see how well the vinyl is holding up and if anyone is having any issues overall? Any cracking on the vinyl? Are you regularly treating the vinly with any protectant? Any other components failing?

Any suggestions for a tonneau that will barely be used? I like the open bed, rarely haul anything that needs covering, but occasionally I would like to have a cover. Something that I can pack away when not using. And without a bunch of hardware in the bed to get in the way when it's off the truck.
