Anyone else waiting on VW to buyback their TDI and buying a 3rd Gen? I put a deposit down on a 17 OR 4x4 DCSB MGM here in Charlotte. It should arrive 11/5 so hoping VW get's their stuff together and starts buying back 11/1.

Currently own a 2012 Jetta TDI 6sp manual - Love it but going to love the Taco even more.

    That's exactly what I did.

I have 2 2014 Jetta TDIs, mine and my partners. Mine's going back in November, but I couldn't wait and picked up my 2017 TRDOR last week. I'll have 2 payments for a month or so, but I get a fat check from VW next month, so who cares?

Nice! I almost pulled the trigger a few weeks back but held off just in case something fishy went down with VW. How do you like the drive of the Tacoma compared with your Jetta? Obviously different, truck vs car, but noise, smoothness, seat comfort etc...

I noticed a pretty big difference from just a test drive with the Taco in a good way.

Hard to compare the 2. They're completely different.

    I'll miss the 45-50MPG.

LOL why sell back? You won't get anywhere close to the mpg. Don't act like you bought it to be green. Vw is obviously going to need to correct the whole emissions thing.
You're going to really miss the mpg.

Really stupid comparison. The two are so different.

I got a 2005 Taco and am letting VW buy back my 2012 Passat TDI with 153k miles.
They are taking almost $7000 because of the high miles.

Has anyone had any progress on there Document review from VW in the claim portal?

I'm selling back for a few reasons.

    1) It's not emissions compliant. A few states are already not allowing registration renewals. I don't want to be caught with a useless vehicle.
    2) I used to have a 90 mile commute, now it's 6. I don't care about fuel economy as much as I used to
    3) They're going to be giving me about $3k more than I paid for it for the buyback, plus a $6k settlement. Who wouldn't take that deal? Free use of a car for 2.5 years and $9k on top? I'd have to REALLY like the VW to turn that down.

I also am in a different financial & family situation than I was when I got the VW. My wife has a '15 Focus we can use if we care about fuel economy on a long trip. I also preordered a Tesla Model 3. I won't be trading the Taco in when the Tesla arrives. The Model3 will be great for local use when I don't need a pickup.

No progress on docs, but we're looking at the same thing selling back our '15 GSW TDI. Looking at a Taco for replacement (no, not for green-ness but we'll miss the mileage); we also have a hatchback '10 Subaru Impreza (105k miles) that we're probably selling and we'll probably lease a regular Golf for around town. As a '15 owner I feel we got relatively burned; ended up eating the ~8.5% Kalifornia sales tax on the original purchase (yes it looks sort of OK if we hold onto the car longer and it amortizes over a longer period but still).

Both our TDI's are garaged and waiting to go back. We bought a '16 GTI as one replacement. I would love to get a new Tacoma, but I am scared of all the problems they are having. I have now expanded my search to include the GM twins, a Frontier and even a Ridgeline.

I'll be selling back my '10 jetta tdi, and likely will replace that with a Civic hatchback at some point.

I just got my Tacoma, but that was happening regardless of the VW scandal.

We paid $27,000 back in December 2011, have put 33K miles on it, and VW is indicating they'll buy back for $23,500 or thereabouts. That's around $60/mo. to drive for past 5 years. They don't do emissions testing out here in Santa Fe so we could just keep it but I've never had a pickup and the buyback cash gets me a lot closer to affording a 2017 TRD Off-Road, 4 Door Crew Cab, 4x4 short bed automatic...I'm not worried about the mpg thing. Our experience with the TDI was more like 32 MPG city...nothing like advertised. Given the hoax of Peak-Oil now that we're in the world of FRACKING I don't expect to see oil exceed $100 bbl for the next 20 years. By then electric will be all the rage and gas may even be cheaper. Especially with the aging populations of the world. Our other car is a 2007 Saab 9-5 Aero and it get's a dismal 18 MPG city. As to the emissions compliance issue I really doubt most TDIs out there are emitting 40x standards. The guys in the university lab published their worst case numbers. And beyond that many of the manufacturers do whatever they can to meet EPA standards...sometimes legally sometimes not. I don't think the total atmospheric effect is more than one coal fired powered plant in China.

how much are you guys getting back? I have a 2011 Golf TDI estimating around $16500 for the buyback. Already have a Tacoma so the money is to the student loans!

Edit my golf has 109,600 miles

'15 TDI SE: ~$29k. Paid ~$32k in Aug '15 OTD. Current mileage ~15k

Our mileage on highway was over the advertised 43mpg (at 65-70mph). City driving was mid 30s.

We'd look at other pickups, but no other except the Frontier are offered in M/T.

With every scandal comes many opportunists. It's an easy play to use the sensationalist "green" card.

That, and the true green folk take any opportunity to exercise their self righteous beliefs ... even if they do nothing else for the cause.

I have decided to keep my 2010 VW TDI, I really wanted to find the same color MK6 but in a 4dr Golf R version. I was going to swap all my mods onto the R. I wanted that 4-motion, plus going from a 2dr to a 4dr would be so much better for the family. But all that trouble swapping out the parts, then I would probably have another car payment to deal with. I decided to keep it. Take that money and put more mods into the Tacoma.

Or pay off my loans. I dunno. I am just going to see how things pans out.

I bought my truck the last week of June, 2011 Jetta TDI sitting in the driveway. I think anyone keeping theirs is crazy. I had the HPFP go out at 114k. At 146 now. Couldn't imagine having to replace that. $$$$

HPFP is partially why I'm getting rid of mine. It's worth more to me to get out while I'm ahead. Mine didn't fail, but I do have a cracked DPF. Thing is a time bomb, and really expensive to maintain.
