i was monkeying around checking to see how i would shut off the engine i an emergency if needed be while driving. i was parked but turned it off in neutral, it did shut down immediately but the radio stayed on, had to put in park and push the button again to turn off the radio. weird part when i got out my back door was locked. i have all the doors open when i touch the door handle and disabled the auto lock. had to unlock the rear door manually from the driver side button on the arm rest. had to cycle the door, lock from outside touching handle then touched handle again to unlock and it was back to normal. the reason i did this in the first place i was driving and after making a turn and barley giving it gas it accelerated more then normal, that got me thinking what if i ever had to shut it down fast and not wait 20 seconds holding the start button in.

When do you have to hold the start button for 20 seconds?

If it is an emergency just hit the brake and gas at the same time to kill the engine.

If you are driving and need to shut the engine off, hold the button for 3 seconds for it to turn off, not 20.

As far as your locks go, when you shift from park to drive for the first time, your doors lock. When you shift back into park, they unlock. Because you shut it off in Neutral before you shifted to park, they did not unlock as normal. That's why when you got out, the back door was locked.

Radio stays on because the ignition is still "on" in neutral. Just like you can't shut off a keyed car in neutral and pull key out of ignition and walk away.

Going to a push button starter from a keyed starter has been an experience for me. I have gone Over to a friends house and parked my truck only to forget to hit the starter button to turn off the engine. I am thinking I just turned the engine off with my key. Well this happened twice and when I left my friends house and got into my truck the engine was still running Geez.

It's a big problem especially with hybrids, since you come to a stop and the engine does actually turn off on it's own, but of course if you don't hit the button it will start up again to keep the battery charged...they can run for days like this. I've heard of a few cases of people leaving them on in their garage by accident only to be later killed by the carbon monoxide. 13 deaths reported
