Well I just need to do a road trip holiday down to you, lol. And bring a trailer of Lobster from St Johns :)

If I do anything to mine as far as sub, I'd prefer to buy the best under seat sub available. I want all my storage behind seats for storage. Seems like I never have enough room for gear. Do you knowledgeable guys think an under seat sub is worth it? If it's not, then it's no sub at all. I figure powered sub under one seat, and amp for the other speakers under other front seat.

That's a similar setup to mine and I think you're missing some pieces. You're going to want a 5 channel amp so that you can run power to all the speakers and not just the sub. You'll also need a signal processor or line output converter to get the signal to the amp(s). Lastly, you're going to need adapters for the speakers. I'd recommend Mr. Marv, or *********.

Can you please suggest a 5 channel amp that can power 4 speakers and sub?

BTW, this little sub is rated 300W RMS.

The JBL speakers I ordered from CF included the adapters

    Thanks

Let me know how it turns out. I'm curious to see if it's even worth getting new speakers or just an amp for the factory speakers.

Starting my audio build since the cold season has started. Installing a Sundown Audio SD-2 12" in a custom ported box behind the rear seat tuned to 37hz and a Zapco Amp. Along with about 125 lbs of CLD tiles, closed cell foam, and MLV covering the whole interior. Undecided on brand of door speakers/amp as of yet.

20160422_060521.jpg Adding the sub woofer made the biggest difference! I went with JL speakers. Good luck!

So, the installer said the problem was his connections didn't stay together because the Toyota speaker wire is aluminum, not copper. Once he fixed that, all was good. I had him install the Focal's below instead of the JL's and it sounds great. More Bass, and with the JL amp, I can crank it very loud. No regrets. It wasn't cheap though. The rear speakers don't have much base, so I miss the rear bass I had in my last truck. The bass comes form the 6x9 front door speakers. I think I will eventually toss an 8 or 10" sub behind the seat. Only miss it because I've had a sub in the past. If you just want better sound, and don't need to shake the rear view mirror, I highly recommend the Focal's The front are designed specifically for the Tacoma.

If you want more bass, and are on a budget, keep the factory speakers, and add a good sub and amp. With install, Focal's and JL AMP, I am out about $1100.

Can't wait to see this. Cramming that sub behind the rear seats is going to be tricky due to it's size.

Yes it is VERY tight, even with all the pre-measuring before ordering sub I was getting worried, box is built and it fits though. Hoping to finish all the sound deadener and final install this weekend, will post pics.

The SD2-12 does not have a vented pole piece on the back, so it can be mounted directly against the back wall of the box. If fit, but clearance was so tight I had to angle the sub crooked to clear the arms on the basket. Sounds good, still breaking this stiff SOB in.
