P0328 - Powertrain - Knock Sensor 1 Circuit High Input (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

Why am I getting a check engine light? Also Trac Off light is on. I've got less than 4k miles. Auto shift. It seems to kick when it shifts gears and has trouble going up hills. Just started happening.

Any ideas?

I've added an OEM+ audio system a few weeks ago. Sub, Speakers, Amp. I took the fuse out to test and see if that had something to do with it. Seemed to not affect anything. Question, will that void my warranty? I'm assuming it wont.....

I'm going to bring this thing into the dealer tomorrow but any advice or troubleshooting ideas would be greatly appreciated.

 

It would be incumbent upon the dealer to prove that somehow the OEM+ system had a lick of hair to do with a knock sensor code. Which, may I add, would be very difficult, if not impossible to prove. Interior modifications would have very little to do with a powertrain issue, even if they noticed you had changed anything. Take it in for service.

 

Bad fuel can caused knock sensor codes. Mechanical engine noise can set the codes. or it could be an electrical problem.

 

maybe CPS too... fuel rail issue too maybe an issue with an injector. Time for service..let Toyota figure it out. Probably more codes you don't see.

 

Turns out that rats ate my wiring harness. They found a rodents nest and the harness was all chewed up. Not covered by warranty, and insurance will pay for a total of $60 out of the $560 it will cost to replace it. Anyone else have this issue? Got ideas for how to keep the little bastards from nesting in your new truck?

Huh...how long have you had the truck? How old did the rodent nest look? How does the dealership know it wasn't there when your purchased the new truck. The dealer that sold you the truck should kick something back to you... just sayin...

Rodents build nest at dealership, customer drives rodent nest and rodents home with truck, rodents abandon nest - too risky, on way out chew thru wires.... problem solved!

Ask the dealer to be honest and tell me they don't or didn't have a rodent issue!! the OP fixed the rodent problem.. kick back fix truck!

I've dealt with rat nests in vehicles. Had a family of dead babies dug up while momma rat chewed the electical tape and wire jackets to make the nest. I had that experience once with a Honda and 3 times with GM product. LOL.. Honda did do a "goodwill" repair and worked with the customer. Usually depends on your loyalty/ relationship with the dealership and how often they service your vehicle.

That's usually a customer pay type of job though, due to it being out of the hands of Toyota. One manufacturer's wires aren't any tastier over anything else, but I do remember the wire harnesses are much better routed and supported on Japanese made vehicles, just not protected from rodents. Nothing is rodent proof....

 

Honda for a little while had some type of nut byproduct or oil or something in the insulation of their wiring. It was actually attracting mice.

Cayenne pepper or capsaicin works. Might be able to get some type of hot pepper oil and mist it on the wire harnesses. One poster said fluid film, this may work as well, but some people don't like that crap all over everything. Might be some other remedies if you google it

just had the same thing happen with my 2012 tacoma with 24k on it, cost me the 500 dollar deductible and insurance paid the rest of the 17 hour job, dealer said try peppermint oil once a month dripped/drops in the engine compartment, so we'll see...also Honda makes a tape with capsicum in it for this type of thing (apparently Honda has realized this is a problem so much so that they came out with a Honda part (asked about it at local Honda dealership, counter guy never heard of the tape or of the problem of chewed wires)). i think daily driving helps too which could have been my problem, damn weeks vacation!
