I asked for a refund after a few trips to the dealer with a "cannot duplicate" or "its normal" response. Took about 5 months to finally get my refund. It was not offered to me though - more of a pulling teeth process to get a refund.

no your dealer gave you 3rd party lifetime powertrain warranty, and they're nothing but a scam. 95% of the time you pay for it and they will always find some way to not pay you, whether its 'you have a mod that caused it' 'you didn't do proper maintenance so it failed'

I haven't heard a single case of those 3rd party warranties being worth it. I have plenty of friends that are mechanics or work in sales at the dealers and they all say the same, its a waste of money.

Even if you have all the maintenance done that they require I've heard them denying the claim because the work was done by an independent shop, and not the dealer.

I've got the paperwork infront of me now (note this is relevant to Canada only); the platinum plan must be purchased within 36 months or 60k kms. There are deferred purchase surcharges that increase the longer you wait to purchase the plan. The other caveat is the plan must be purchased within 31 days to be eligible for the oil and filter maintenance program.

strongly recommend looking through your bank or an external source. dealers like to mark theirs up like crazy. when we financed my wife's rav4 through USAA, they had a pretty reasonable price on their extended warranty compared to the dealer.

those 3rd party ones are notorious for not warranting work though.
They always find a loop hole to not do the work, and most of the time you need to pay up front and be reimbursed.
