I have 2300 miles on my 2015 Taco, just did it's 3rd oil change. If you don't hit the miles, you do it by time. Acid is not a good thing to have in oil when you store it for the winter.

While I verify anything a dealer does, Toyota is by far the worst of the automotive world when it comes to wrenching. Don't know why because they do make VG vehicles but they could take a lesson from even Fiat/Dodge dealers.

My new vehicle I just bought is NOT a Toyota because I'm done with the amateurs that run and work at Toyota dealers. Sad, sucks, but unfortunately true. If KIA came out with a small truck that compared to Toyota's, I'd probably give them a shot because NO ONE I have ever talked to personally had anything bad to say about the damn things in the past 5 years and the repair department seems to be pretty fair.

I think part of the issue is that there is very little competition in the [kind of local] Toyota dealer market, the same owners tend to own multiple places and those places are few and far between so you get the same lousy service because it's headed by the same people who hand out the same orders to all the employees regardless of the actual facility they work in.

haha I have one of those filing type folder things full of service records for my car, about an inch thick from the 6 years I've owned my jetta and all the work done to it between oil changes and mods.

If you took it in for the FREE 5k, there wouldn't have been any confusion with them performing the first service when it went in at 10k instead of 5k
The comment about your wife, well, clearly she didn't confirm that she was getting the 10k service when she took it in. And neither of you verified it it on the paperwork that it got done.

And how come it didn't get caught at the 15k service, or did you skip that one too?

Do you work for a dealer or something?
So what he skipped his 5k and did it himself? He told the dealer thats what he wanted. Doesn't matter if he didn't bring it. For one how does the dealer know he didn't do it himself or do it elsewhere? Regardless they should've been able to look at the milage on the truck to see he's due for his 10k.

So his wife didn't confirm what was done? Guess what dealers shouldn't be such fuckin cunts then because a lot of women go into dealers with no fuckin clue about cars and they get taken for a ride. I already lost it on 1 toyota dealer for fucking around with my grandmother. Cunt dealer was trying to take a 87 year old for a ride by telling her she needs all this shit done with her oil change starts telling her shit she definitely doesn't understand. Hell she can barely even speak english. I had to go with her to translate to italian because the dealer was being a bunch of cunts.

Not sure why you're being such a dick about how and when he chooses to service his vehicle. His rant was over the dealer not listening to what he wanted.

    this

Had so many issues with VW when I first bought my car for when I had to go get stuff done.
Was easier for me to just pay for shit that was supposed to be free and bring it to my mechanic that has more flexible hours. In the long run cost me less than needing to miss work to deal with dumb cunt dealers

The rant was over the dealer being incompetent and rediculous.
I simply pointed out how he could have done some things that contributed to the situation, and that it could have entirely been avoided.

It sounds like you have some serious issues with dealers, so I understand why you're in here beating the dealers suck drumb. But just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't make them a dick

its not that I don't agree with you that makes you a dick, its the way you seemed to be attacking the OP like this is all his fault, almost sounding like you're saying his wife is stupid or something.

But yes I have had a lot of bad experience with dealers. I have had some that were good but regardless when it comes to a dealer they don't usually have the greatest customer relationship.

This is a half-day thing. And you have to have all of the tools and a place to do it.

Some of us dont have a garage or a place where we can do it. I, for example, live in a high rise condo. I'm sure its against some rule to change my oil in my garage spot. I haven't checked because I wouldn't bother doing it there.

For me it would be: Go buy the filter and oil (a 45minute trip at a minimum), buy the special wrench for it(+$$), buy a drain pan(+$$), spend 10 minutes looking at youtube videos on how to do it, go down to do it, question whether I did it right, come back up to where I have wifi to double check youtube, go back and finish up..then I have to go back to dispose of oil (another 45 minute trip at a minimum), then I have to come back and make sure everything is put away.

OR I could go take it somewhere to have it done: 45 minute total.

It IS worth it to bring the vehicle to the dealer for service, if you expect any kind of goodwill from the dealer. Obviously it's a good idea to double check their work, since once in awhile people make mistakes. Bottom line is it's your vehicle, you can certainly cut ties with the dealership that sold it to you, but if you have a problem at 37k miles do you expect them to go above and beyond to assist? That's an honest question.

That ^^^ same shit, same shine-ola.... need the work done take to a local shop you trust, you can even get Toyota to re-reimburse you for the maintenance. The local sales mgr told me that when I bought the truck.

I figured I'd try and develop a good ongoing relationship with my local dealer service mgr which I'm trying to do.. but same thing. I took it in for a 5K service and asked them to change the oil even tho its not due until 10K I'll pay for it blah blah and be sure to LUBE... nothing happened. I don't even think they checked the fluid levels like they are supposed to.

I'm doing my own maintenance ... I lubed my truck last week ... truck had been in for a 15K service which is lube and oil change... Zirks pumped out all black nasty shit nothing that looked like recent lube for sure. OH and I'm getting 2-3 more mpg now after I did the lube.

I guess my u-joints are finally broken in! Yeah I just did average 19.6mpg this last tank.. best I was doing before I lubed it was 15mpg IF I was pussy foot granny driving.

Going 20k on original oil? I'd think they owe you the extended warranty at bare minimum.

The relationship with my dealerships service department started out rocky because I got some know-it-all douchebag that dismissed my concerns and wasn't trust worthy. But now, I've built a great relationship with the service manager and I would lose so much by going to a different dealer. He knows my story, he knows my truck and its issues, and he's actively been trying to help me. He called me about the transmission TSB the day after it came out and told me to bring it in!

Going to a different dealer, at the point, would wipe that all out. I'd be just some random guy complaining about their truck.

Yea buddy. I wouldn't be accepting anything less.

Especially if they already admitted they fired their old manager (presumably for cause).

Be polite, but be firm. You need an extended warranty.

honestly at times its nice doing it yourself even if its more of a hassle. Good to know your rig, you'll feel more useful, and lets be honest no one will baby it better than you are.

Very good point. Check it before you go . The oil on the dipstick will be dark. Check it after it is done . It should be clear. I get it If you live in an apartment complex and do not have a garage, or your own driveway, it can be a real pain to change your own oil . There are other reasons such as if you do not have time or it is beneath you ect . Check it afterward yourself , or have your driver do it . But make sure it is checked post change and then frequently afterwards ! Just because it is new means nothing . end of rant .

Problem with changing your own oil instead of the dealer is where is the proof for warranty purposes if something should happen to the engine while under warranty ? I always mark the oil pan bolt so I can see it has been removed as well as the filter.

I really think bringing any vehicle to a dealer in a major city will only get you shit service.
Bringing it to a more rural out of town dealer where they don't have as many to service would be better.

When you go to one in the city you will always just be a number to them, customer 1, customer 2. They see 100s of cars a day probably so they won't give you a personal touch and actually go above and beyond to do good quality work. A dealer that doesn't see as many cars will likely go above and beyond so that they get you as a returning customer. Its the same case with an independent shop, most will want to keep their customers happy so that they keep returning.
I live in the city so I likely won't be bringing mine to the dealer I bought it from which is about an hours drive away. I'll keep going to my mechanic who is 10 minutes away and does great work.

Oil filter has change date written on it with automotive paint along with mileage, tab from filter box [toyota filter] saved along with the UPC code from the oil container and documented in the toyota supplied maint log book.

Mine is too. I've had a share of dealing with bad dealerships and thankfully I found one that's honest and dependable
