    Anyone have any tips on what to do for my little 4 banger first gen? Looking to use it as a camp/adventure rig.

    It's slower than the videos posted here I can promise that! Glad to finally be a part of the Tacoma crew again. (Sold my 2001 4 years back when I went to college).

    Do you have the 2.7L? You might be able to source a supercharger for it. You put that in you'll be flying! :)

    EDIT: might be prohibitively expensive

    The super charger for the 2.7 won't pass smog in CA. :mad:

    :( I didn't have enough for one at the time.

    :( Bummer. My little 2.7 2wd is all I got.

    majestic gold 4x4... 1/4 million miles and counting!
    improved toyota goodness.
    bought the stuff to try and sound deaden my cab. $78 and change later and my ride to work might be quieter tomorrow.


    also do the double cab rear doors have a screw hidden somewhere around the pull handle?
    not the one to open the latch that did. but the tub shaped one by the window switch?

    they don't want to snap off like the fronts did and I cant find a screw cover anywhere...

    Thanks. A locker will probably happen at some point. 1 gen double cabs in decent condition in CA are rare and worth their weight in gold. The 4x4 models still go for 15k. I paid 8k for my truck and it left me a lot of room to see what I want to do with it. So I'm not mad. I'm not as crazy into wheeling as a lot of people on here. I just want something to use as a surf/adventure rig.

    You can build an awesome rig with what you have and what you want. Setup a CL search/alert for a shell. it might be 6 months + before you find one, but they are out there.

    I have a local shell guy who has my number when he finds one as well. There is one that matches the paint of my car it's a leer. The guy is asking $800 which is too high right now for me.
