really not many dealers seem to deny warranty unless you clearly did something to cause it.
Warranty is all from Corporate and the dealers are all independent. End of the day its all income to them that they file to corporate to be paid for.

Maybe in the case of those shitty third party warranties sure pays to have receipts but Toyota warranty not so much.

Why do you assume the burden of proof is that the work was performed?

Oil changes are pretty easy to show, the proof is in the pudding. If you've run the oil 50,000 miles it's quite obvious.

This is all much ado about nothing. Pull up the myriad of news articles showing where people DIYing oil changes are getting denied warranty claims if this is as troublesome an issue as you feel it is.

EXACTLY! Unless there's an obvious failure of maintenance, it's extremely improbable anyone's ever going to ask for paperwork.

Third party warranties? Only one I've ever had was tire and wheel sold by BMW dealers in the region, but that's always paid out quick and easy. $50 deductible and I'm out of there with a new $400 tire. Already paid for itself.

I'm sure there are nightmare companies out there.

I think you're overthinking it too much dude.
I get your concern and that you're just trying to help the OP out but really. When it comes to oil changes I doubt the dealers would fight you on it when you can get drive through oil changes from any place like mr lube, walmart, costco, speedy oil change etc.

Sure if it was for scheduled maintenance like timing belt changes or transmission flush etc sure could see it being a problem but oil changes I do not think any dealer would nitpick over unless it was 100% clear you did not do oil changes and only place I can see that being obvious is if you brought it in for warranty work and it had low oil from being so old or just had really old disgusting oil in it.

Interesting that these trucks have to have the maint. minder reset after an oil change and tell the owner when to change the oil . If the dealer never did it , would there be a yellow or red icon lit up on the dash ? Even my chevy has it and Onstar shows the record of when it was reset each time it was reset.

Yes . So if the ops truck never had the oil changed he would have been warned via the warning system telling what percentage of oil life was left. The trucks computer most likely would have a record also to prove maint. or at least it was reset .

if you brought it in with a service reminder light on I can see them maybe trying to use that but really doubt any dealer would ever look to oil changes to deny warranty work.

besides one test of the oil and as long as you have changed it, it should be ok.
And in the process of trying to deny warranty work there are many things they could check to see if there is excessive wear because oil changes were never done. Since you're doing the oil changes none of that evidence they are looking for will be there so shouldn't be a concern.

Agree 100% at a third party. The discussion was if YOU change the oil personally and have no receipt of the service, only for parts.

really do not think it would be a concern though. I mean really how many people do actually save receipts? Not saying I don't, as I always do save them, but many do not. Yet do you hear of a lot of people being denied warranty work because they don't have a record of work? Fill the service manual out yourself. As long as there is some sort of record that you did it service I doubt they'd argue it. For them to say oh you filling it out doesn't count, there would have to be some serious evidence iit was never done.

Besides someone dumb enough not to bring it in for service then not do it themselves are probably to dumb of a cunt to think to fake a service manual lol.

You better believe if pothead Kyle from lucky lube changes your oil instead of the dealer while it's under waranty, does something like forget to put the oil cap back on and causes your engine to seize.... Receipt or not, they are going to give you double middle fingers when you try to get it covered under a warranty claim.
Same thing goes for you doing the work yourself. They can't tell you you can't do it, but if something happens you're going to be SOL

I'm going to log the work I have done on Toyota.com, the owners tab. It has a place on there for you to do that. Name of garage and what you had done along with the date & mileage.

Not sure what motor the OP's truck has but most all of the Tacoma's are actually supposed to get their oil changed at 5,000 miles if it has the V-6. The owners manual should have an astric noting this. The only Taco's that actually get oil changed at 10,000 miles should be the 4cyl, if that. I'll admit though I haven't done a oil change on the new Tacoma yet, because I don't work in that part of my dealership.

At our dealer we get official oil change interval/ viscosity/ volume for all the vehicles. Some have special notations on them, ex. flex fuel Tundra interval is 5,000 miles, but if you use E-85 the interval drops down to 2,500 miles.

    Sorry, but my $.02
