damn you've been a mechanic for 75 years you are old

 

Didn't read the article but guessing that the bias of the belts and rotation isn't what it used to be. Used to be if you changed the rotation they would separate and blow out. Did a lot of work for Michelin North American HQ in Greenville SC and that is one thing they really focused on.

 

Better than a shovel.

 

We're discussing if it's a good thing to add a full size spare into the tire rotation, something like this.

yes it is and i imagine does a great job

 

I rewired the ignition circuit using terminal blocks also installed terminal blocks tapping off my 12v batt (+ pos) . Did this so I could easily tap power for additional circuits and accessories

You use a master shut off for the system?

 

Yes a Moroso high amp / high surge disconnect mounted on the r/rear tail panel . I also run my alt + pos wire to the batt side of the disconnect . This way I can kill all power to my electrical system quickly

 

you have your master in your positive circuit?

 

Finally someone that knows how to hook up shit.
I see so many cars with a kill switch that I can short out stuff or the car won't shut off hitting the switch.

mine is in the negative in all the heavy equipment i've worked on i never saw one in the positive circuit they are always negative

 

Yep I want to be safe in the event something happens while racing

 

The problem with that is that a neg shorted wire will activate the circuit.

 

NHRA requires a 12v disconnect on the pos side of the electrical system and running the alt charge wire to the batt side of the disconnect

NHRA tech requires you to be able to completely kill all electrical power and shut the car down at 3k rpm . This has to be done with absolutely no voltage bleed over

 

i guess it depends on your usage mine is hidden under the car it's main purpose is simply to disrupt the circuit and not as a sefety or "kill switch" it seems if you'd want one for safety reasons you'd install it in the operators compartment where you can use it

 

Let me clarify.
A short in the NEG side will activate the circuit.
A short in the POS side will blow the circuit fuse or melt the wiring if they are stupid enough not to have one. I had to add fuses to the elva cause there were none and we burned wiring. It was built like that. Idiots

 

It's outside so a track worker can shut the car off in case the driver is disabled and can't do it himself.
