Whats the deal with aftermarket ebay timing belt kits?

I know the majority will say get OEM parts at the dealer or Toyota of dallas(which has a crap website/hard to navigate imo + no direct timing belt kit) but lets face it these parts are still hundreds more than the ebay kits from sellers with reputable ratings? What gives? anyone have a kit from ebay installed?

I'm all for using aftermarket parts...such as alternators, brakes, gaskets, etc...

however for any moving part of the engine, I.e internals, timing belt, tensioners, water pump, oil pump, etc. I would only use OEM.

 

I for the most part use OEM parts on things like timing belts, but a few years ago I used a kit I got from Napa for my wifes camry. The cool part about it was the tensioner and idler bearing were the same brand as OEM, so it was the same if I had gotten it from the dealer. You may want to see if they have a kit for your application. May be worth a look.

somebody has to have some experience with a ebay kit for around $130???

 

most of the reputable ebay people are selling oem style parts, like bando belts which is a supplier for timing belts, koyo or gmb idlers are also oem suppliers and gmb which makes water pumps are also oem supplier....if you get a kit from ebay look for these name brand parts...just bought a kit from ebay and had no problems but i did research on these parts i have listed.....some of the off brand cheap kits on ebay i would be careful....buy the parts i have suggested for long life and reliabilty...

 

depends on what kind of belt it is.gates makes alot of the timing belts,but they are a little noisey.i would stick with oem for myself.

 

I put a gates belt on from NAPA and it is working great so far. I would only trust napa for aftermarket stuff.

napa sells a kit like mentioned above belt, idler, tensioner for for around 220 with w/p around 80
