i had the same problem, u just need to move the filter farther from the heat sheild towards the passenger side of the car... and make sure everything is nice and tight

Nothing. It'll just take in hotter air causing a slight (Maybe barely noticeable) Decrease in performance.

Then what does the "L" bracket below the intake connect to?

to the engine bay, the heat shield has a few spots where it connects to the engine bay and the filter floats through the hole in it... which is why most people get the rattle from it the plastic adapter on mine would bump against that L bracket but once i pulled it away it quit doing that for a while anyways

I just installed mine two weeks ago. The heat shield bolts to the engine bay with two "L" brackets. Then the piping floats through the heat shield hole while being supported by the "L" bracket which is bolted to the heat shield.

what type of K&N do u have the black plastic or the metal one? b/c if it just rests on the L bracket then when your engine torques its gonna pull the filter away from the L bracket and then bring it back towards it causing a rattle.. im interested at this point, but when i first had the rattle i called K&N and they said pull the filter farther away from the engine
