Lots of the Gas Stations will buy their gas from the same refiners based on spot pricing. Most places like Murphy, Quik-Trip, and Costco don't have their own refineries, so it's bought on the open market from the companies that do. Quik-trip might have gas from a Shell refinery one month, then a Mobil/Exxon one next month, and so on.

Nevertheless, both QT and Costco are in the list of TopTier providers.

    As I understand it....

Top tier gas refers to the additive package. Generally the benefit is that it does a better job of preventing deposits from building up in the fuel/air path of the engine. You won't see any difference between tanks.... more like 100,000+ miles. It reduces the amount of build up (varnishing) you may see on the valves.....

That being said, if there are other issues going on..... ie PCV sucking excessive oil vapor into the engine, you may see build up on the valve anyway, but it wouldn't be from the gasoline.

There was a good article somewhere here that tested this and had positive results.

Oh, Costco is generally the easiest and cheapest place for me to get gas. It's top tier, so I'm good there. I won't sweat stopping somewhere else though.

Yep, same here. Costco and QT are the easiest, with Sams coming in third. I'm not going to sweat the occasional Sams fill up.

Surprised Marathon is not on the list.

Yes, I'm aware, though it wasn't obvious. :)

As for the saying... do try sitting on a two-legged stool after a few beers and let me know how it works out. ;)

Sorry cannot do that. Jesus delivered me from alcohol just over 16 years ago. (Thank you Jesus!)

but, but, but. My 1978 pinto ran fine on ma and pa kettle's water gas. I don't know why my 2016/17 with much different technology would take improved fuel. /sarcasm

By looking at the list in my area it's freaking hard to NOT get top tier.

Very true. Gas is gas . the additive package is add to the gas in the tank truck per specs as to where it is going to be delivered to .
This is why , if I cannot get top tier where I am at the time I add a good additive such as Techron to my tank myself .

Hey ! ,long live the Pinto . I had a used 74 Pinto with a Vinyl Top ( Top of the line ) back in 79 for a winter car. It was a decent car . The best thing about it was I was hit by a car on my side rear corner and it pulled the bumper out about 8" . The ladies ins. cut me a check for more than I paid for the car and got to keep the car too. I hammered the bumper back with a 10 # sledge hammer ,
( the bumpers were steel at the time ) and drove it for several more years as my winter beater .
On topic , at the time I put in what ever was cheapest .

I use Murphy Mart with some Allon 87 octane here and there in my Gen2. I average 20.5 MPG on BFG KOs in the summer and have never had a problem.

This is all marketing crap bullshit..!! I live in a 3rd world country where do not have such "niceties" as "Top Tier" gas.. We just have the old run-of-the-mill 87 with 10% corn added..!! We are surviving real well without all that "Top Tier" stuff... (I really do not know how my truck keeps running, but it does)..??

Holy Shite Batman... Did not we had that crap up here... I'd have to drive 30 miles to the nearest Petro Can..?? Non of those others exist within a days ride of me.. That's OK..! I'll just keep using the "low Tier" stuff, I guess.. works for me..!

We got 5 Timmy's in my town, but no Top Tier gas... I don't even like their coffee.....;)
