    shhh. I'll be here in Altoona until Friday, then I have to come back the first week of November, the possibly a third time in mid November. My new job is taking on work from the Altoona plant, which is closing soon. The only people left are the handful of folks doing the work that Connecticut is taking on, so I go to a big, empty plant every day. Sad.

    The plant in Altoona has been producing ignition wires for probably 40 years or more. About 3 years ago they took on some pretty complicated government wiring harnesses. The ignition wire business relocated to, surprise, Mexico. Everyone in the plant was laid off a while back, and the plant is in the process of being sold. The only people left are training us to take over their jobs. A bit awkward. Pretty normal for the manufacturing sector, unfortunately. Anyone in the Northeast, and probably lots of other regions, drives by dozens of mothballed, decrepit factories every day. It's all happened in my lifetime.
