    And It will happen again.
as they told me, not if but when.....

I got 62k ish on mine and hear they fail again as the motor gets older faster and faster.
Dealer stated fix should last 2 years then it may go again.

Well that's not good news. I guess I'll give the bypass try. Was thinking about getting the OEM parts and replacing the entire thing but if you say it will eventually fail again then there's no point. It not like it's a cheap part to be replacing every few years especially if you plan on keeping your Taco awhile which I am but having second thoughts now.

I think the system must work for the bypass to work.

No they said it will work without it being operational since it's meant to disable it in the first place.

From Hewitt-tech's website "When properly installed our modules will bypass the operation of a faulty secondary air system permanantly and isolate the system from the exhaust. The bypass module prevents the system from operating and the block off plates prevent limp mode and codes associated with stuck valves."

    http://hewitt-tech.com/store/index.php?l=product_list&c=25

Still digging my taco so can't throw her away just yet. Hopefully this will be the last major issues for awhile.

Well I'm happy to report that Jay Wolfe Toyota of Kansas City has came through for me! They will cover the parts and labor under warranty! Waited all day with no update from them, I called before I left work but no one in the service dept. picked up. So I decided to drop by and see, prepared to tow it back home. Then they gave me the best news. Even though it will go bad again, its not costing me a cent now!

Is this problem on 2012s only? If so, why don't they use the system off of 2013-2015?:notsure:

They will be going out soon enough...they just haven't started getting mileage on them. Wait till mid next year 2013s will start jumping on here...a year later 2014s and so on.

There is a 2013 or 14 (I believe) in this thread somewhere who had his go out at like 9,000 miles so those systems are not the fix

That's some good news, what warranty did they cover it under? Power train or emission?

The later ones run for a second after shut down to dry out moisture so I think they should last a lot longer.

You are correct...however it doesn't really do jack squat for the moisture from what I have read at least based off other owners :/

They said it's covered under the power train warranty. I should get it back today or tomorrow at the latest. Will post up the work order to help anyone that has issues with their dealerships about warranty coverage.

I'm definitely still considering the bypass but not right now. Just bought a house and all the crap that comes with it so running thin on play money. Congrats on the son. Stop being an overachiever and have some fun.

I'm glad someone was able to get this covered. That being said it should be covered for everyone as a whole, Shouldn't depend what dealer you go to. I still have an open case with Toyota Corporate, once you post up your work order I'm calling and pushing for a refund of my parts again. Thanks for the info!

    Too few to list.
I'm glad the dealership is covering this for you. Even though this time it's free, you should still file a complaint with the NHTSA (https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/) to get your VIN in there. I know Toyota does not like to do recalls but they go the "Extended Warranty" route like they did with the frames and the oil consumption issue with Camry/Corolla and only really take notice when enough people complains.

Well my 2012 with 75k has thrown the P2443 . I knew I was on borrowed time. Didn't go into limp mode. I'll probably at least speak with the dealer to see if they will throw me a bone. Certainly won't hold my breath. I suppose the decision will be to replace the valve or go with the bypass. Think I'm more inclined to replace the valve.

Interestingly I just did uni-filter mod to the pump a few months ago and removed the foam. I'm sure it's coincidence but the timing is kinda funny.

Good luck with the dealer, very few have had this taken care of. I still don't understand how they can get by not covering it under the emission warranty. Keep us posted!

Ok, so I have a scangauge and cleared the code yesterday. I've now had probably 6 cold starts since clearing and the cel has not returned. Scanguage is reporting no codes and it is "Ready". I feel as if this is a silly question but it is feasible the valve became unstuck?
