well I do all the oil changes. So I am guessing one for the tsb and one for them selling it to me right, Its the other 2 that concern me. Do you think the stealer will give me a carfax after the purchase? Just curious cause the report is $40.

If you 'pretend' to put your truck on ebay, you can preview the listing before you click the 'list now' button. In the preview, it shows a detailed autocheck history report that is similar in many ways to carfax. This is a great way to get a free history report, just don't click the list your item button accidentally. :D

That being said, the stealer probably has a carfax account and pays a flat rate for a year or something. It probably wouldn't cost them anything to get you a report, if they will actually take the time to do it. From my experience, they don't normally want to do anything if they can't make any $$$ off of you.

Some how I would mess up, but good idea.
I guess it couldn't, it just I feel like I am in "enemy territory" every time I go to the the stealer you know. Even if I am just picking up a oil filter?

from my experience with carfax some of the information on there is overkill - may be a scare tactic to get people to but the report. for example, when i purchased my car in 2003 the carfax showed 9 events - this was before dealers offered the reports for free to buyers so i purchased the carfax on my own. turns out the 9 events were because the car had been registered in other states - each state registration showed up as 2 events - and had been worked on due to a recall. i'm sure if i looked up my car now it would have close to fifteen events - its been registered in alaska and back in montana (+4 for carfax) since ive owned it and i was the victim of a hit and run a few years ago. even my truck had a few events on its report - all due to recalls and/or warranty work.

If I recall, the sale of the vehicle is a hit on carfax as is the dealer taking delivery.
I think a car sitting on the lot with zero miles will have a carfax hit.
That hit is to get you to purchase carfax.

I may be wrong, if so please correct me.

Dealership did a carfax on my 2004 that I traded a month ago. The mileage was all messed up because I bought it in Ohio and brought it back to Pennsylvania. I didn't register it in PA for about a year and a half because I didn't feel like paying taxes and still drove it so that mileage didn't show. lol. I just played dumb and said I have no idea what carfax did and told them to go look at the miles for themselves.

Search online forums for people that have an unlimited carfax check account. There's almost always one that they'll drop your VIN in and send you a report for.

More than likely it could be a dealer transfer, your purchase, if you registered it to another state, maintenance... probably nothing to worry about.
