I tried hid, ended up with led. I prefer the opt7 but there are several brands out there.

I guess I'm sooo behind the times. I just use stock headlights and have never ran into something/drove off a cliff due to lack of visibility. If you want more light for off-roading, get additional lights.

People want to see better at night in general. Not just off-roading. These stock halogens are garbage compared to OEM HID or LED lights.

I guess you should go back to Kerosene headlamps. LoL

So here's the deal with HID's in halogen housings. The problem is the location of filament vs arc. Provided both are in the exact same location then you will be fine. This is why it's important to get high quality retrofits that make sure that happens. Why reflectors are dangerous is because it has less control over the beam profile and typically older halogens are the old DOT style "blob of light" vs European clean cut line. Halogen bulbs are less intense and therefore are less likely to dazzle so that beam discrepancy is acceptable. If you run HID's or LED's it's critical to make sure you retain that clean cut line or you will blind people. In my case the retrofit store's Tacoma specific kit does retain that Rasor sharp line, meaning bulb is in the correct position.

i just installed the tacoma kit in mine and the line does cut off but not as sharp as my 08 acura tls hids did. i have yet to be flashed by oncoming cars and i do mostly night driving. there is the light beam shake on big bumps with there high density foam seal but not bad i personally can see better than stock halogens, i also got the baja designs led yellow fogs added in factory location

Hmm that's odd, mine work great. The cut off is just as clean as the halogens. I also opted for some low output yellow led's in the fogs. Still have a great pattern and no glare.

    Stock for now
HIDS will work but I peronsaly don't like them because they tend to be finicky some times. I had DDM Tuning in my car and one side would always have problems igniting. A lot of people on here run LED's and have had good look with the ones from Amazon.
