    No I understand that.

    The current #600 coil supports the front end (first gen). Just wondering if re-valving the shim stack on my current #600 coil setup like he said would be more beneficial than switching to a #650 coil and possibly re-valving?

    Pics? How much preload are you running? To much preload and yeah you need a a heavier spring. But if your preload is ok but your truck is handling like garbage, then yes look in to valving

    Hooks law is linear. Meaning it requires the exact same amount of force to compress a higher spring rate with less preload when compared to a lower spring rate with more preload. F =kx where F= force, k= spring rate constant (assuming linear springs), and x is the delta of the distance from the unloaded spring to the amount of preload you have.

    I like to run the lightest spring rate I can to get the ride height I want without running into coil bind issues from too much preload to cause coil bind. After that...it's all valving.

    But then again...we could get into elastic potential energy stored in a compressed spring where increasing spring rate increases stored energy linearly while the change in spring distance from preload increases potential energy exponentially. At that point I'd rather just go get drunk and let you guys fight it out.

    Thanks for clearing it all up and makes a lot more sense now.

    With the 14in coil and #600 coil I do not get binding.

    So from now I'll see about Revalving to get the ride quality im after. Have any valving #s/suggestions off the top of your head for a 1st gen I could try out?

    Hi I want to fit 37s on my truck with the shocks I have that are preloaded, can I still use the rims I have with the weight of all the extra stuff I have up front. Also will it rub?

    No sorry, they are the stock valving from DSM for the first gen ext coilovers but can’t read the pic I have of the green tags.

    Only have valving #s for the rear :frusty:

    There are so many factors. Spring rate, unsprung weight, sprung weight, coilover angle, not to mention what you have in the rear of the truck. It's not cookie cutter. Most of my valving is trial and error. And all of the valving I did on my first gen was with a LT front end which changes the shock angle. I'd have to start from scratch with your truck.

    You can't fit a 16" coil on MT shocks. Well...you can, but you would have to preload them about 2". 14" is the correct length
