Code of Virginia, Title 46.2, Chapt 10

46.2-1063. Alteration of suspension system; bumper height limits; raising body above frame rail.
"......No person shall drive on a public highway any motor vehicle registered as a passenger motor vehicle if it has been modified by alteration of its altitude from the ground to the extent that its bumpers, measured to any point on the lower edge of the main horizontal bumper bar, exclusive of any bumper guards, are not within the range of fourteen inches to twenty-two inches above the ground. Notwithstanding the foregoing provisions of this section, the range of bumper heights for motor vehicles bearing street rod license plates issued pursuant to § 46.2-747 shall be nine to twenty-two inches."
-Further down AND if we qualify as a "Truck":
"......The front bumper height of trucks whose gross vehicle weight ratings are 4,500 pounds or less shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 28 inches, and their rear bumper height shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 28 inches. The front bumper height of trucks whose gross vehicle weight ratings are 4,501 pounds to 7,500 pounds shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 29 inches, and their rear bumper height shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 30 inches......."
-Same provision, regardless of what we are classified as:
" No vehicle shall be operated on a public highway if it has been modified by any means so as to raise its body more than three inches, in addition to any manufacturer's spacers and bushings, above the vehicle's frame rail or manufacturer's attachment points on the frame rail."

    Here's some other stuff:
    46.2-1013. Tail lights.
    46.2-1014. Brake lights.
    46.2-1019. Spotlights.
    46.2-1020. Other permissible lights.
46.2-1030. When lights to be lighted; number of lights to be lighted at any time; use of warning lights. (hmm, guess I'm screwed on this one. I've 8 aux lights facing fwd alone)!
46.2-1032. Requirements as to multiple-beam headlights.
    46.2-1034. When dimming headlights required.
46.2-1035. Dimming headlights on parked vehicles.
46.2-1038. When turn signals required; exceptions. (Cool, I can use hand signals if my trailer lights go out!)
    46.2-1043. Tire tread depth.
46.2-1044. Cleats, etc., on tires; chains; tires with studs.
46.2-1049. Exhaust system in good working order.
46.2-1052. Tinting films, signs, decals, and stickers on windshields, etc.; penalties. (So I'm not supposed to have any extra decals on my puny windshield).
    46.2-1082. Mirrors.

I got pulled over once because the ball that was mounted to my bumper blocked a number on my license plate.

I've been pulled over once in 9 years with the same tint, just got a warning. He told me it wasn't illegal to go all as dark as I wanton the rear, and I've heard it many times from numerous people who have 5% on rears. No one has any problems.

So there's my truck. I bought it with the tails Slightly smoked with plastic dip. But I've already asked cops before and they said they were fine because they weren't blocking any color. And most of you are right the cop is just doing his job. It's the way he went about doing was why I called him a dick. And they look darker in the pick cause the shadow

I told a story once about the same guy break checking me on a neighborhood road (so no traffic) so I rear ended him every time he did it, basically playing footsie with our bumpers on a road without traffic. I got ROASTED about "just because someone break checks you doesn't mean you should rear end them this isn't an eye for an eye society" blah blah blah, so it doesn't hurt to clarify for the self richous Internet lawyer philosophers.

Utah cops will pull you over for the mudflap thing, but usually only if there's something else ruffling their feathers too.
Those are some really dark taillights ... even the part that's not in the shadow.
