Looks like a lot of people are making the claims. Think people need to start opening cases with Toyota and maybe something will happen. If it's not being changed at the dealership level. Move up to corporate!!

So the last time I had my truck in for this a few weeks ago they kept it overnight to see if they could replicate the sound and also have the Toyota field rep take a look at it. They couldn't duplicate the noise so they told me just to stop in while it was chirping and leave it running until the tech could come look at it. Yesterday I finally had a chance to do just that. Of course my SA and the tech who looked at it previously both were not there. However the tech who did come out to look at it took about 2 seconds after listening to it and said, "oh yeah, high pressure fuel pump." Finally a tech who actually heard the chirp and agreed with me. But then he said Toyota probably would not do anything about it. He said they had a Tacoma in last week with the same issue while the field rep was there and the rep said the noise was "normal" or something caused by California gas which Toyota has no control over. The tech agreed with me that it is NOT normal, and said he could file a case to replace the pump but to not be surprised if Toyota says no. He said basically until Toyota admits the problem his hands are tied, but he would add in the comment when he filed the case that the customer (me) was very upset about it, and he attached a cell phone video of my engine chirping. He also mentioned the TSB for the Scion FRS, and said Toyota had rescinded the tsb at one point, then they re-issued it again later, so really their opinion of it could change at any time.

Today my original SA called and left me a message, and...they are ordering a new pump and will call me when it comes in to set up a time to get it installed. Woohoo! Hopefully it takes care of the problem like it did with @TacoFister

Yeah they were useless for me too. Honestly though, try a different gas station. I use to fill up at the shell every week by my office and when I changed gas stations it stopped. Haven't had the issue since

Update: 10/20/16 - The service department contacted me again after the second case was opened by Toyota corporate and said that the Field Tech will not authorize another Fuel Pump replacement. The Cam Actuator was not even considered in the second attempt to get this issue resolved. I have exhausted all options by politely and professionally working with all entities and escalating at the appropriate levels. One more point; I did run a full tank of treated fuel (Marvel Mystery Oil) and it did not resolve the issue for me. Note: There are some comments that fuel from California could be the problem. I live in Oregon.

Is it possible to change this topic thread to be more accurate of the identified issue? My suggestion would be to change the title to be the same as the Toyota Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) S-SB-0023-12 used for the 2013-2014 Toyota Scion FR-S. The title used in the TSB is (Abnormal Chirp or Squeak Noise from High Pressure Fuel Pump). My rational is to be specific in the issue to help put pressure on Toyota to address the problem. If we can't change the title can we open another thread with this title and start tracking the updates there? I'm going to be posting YouTube videos showing the issue and reporting the issue to every website I can referencing the title from the mentioned TSB.

Mine is getting swapped out today...Hope I have better results. The SA advisor did say Toyota has included a memo about using particular gas.

Try changing your fuel brand to top tier regular and stick to it if it goes away, and change oil. I have not heard mine so far with almost 13k on the clock, but I do keep my fingers crossed also :/

I use Shell regular '87 octane & 0W20 Mobil one synthetic changed every 5k

    Edit:
BTW...The high pressure fuel pump appears to be very sensitive to fuel type and oil viscosity is very strictly recommended. So much for modern tech, less choices it seems.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

Well I have a new fuel pump. No mention of replacing the cam actuator - wish me luck. The "memo" about gas seems to be just a note inserted into the work order as a recommendation. I usually use Costco gas, I'll try switching it up.20161027_132727.jpg

OP - thanks for starting this thread. After getting home from work today, I noticed a chirping in my 2017 (3400 total miles) while the truck was idling in the garage, and shortly thereafter I found this thread. Since I had just gotten home from work, the truck was obviously warm, and it was around 100deg today in Phoenix. It will be interesting to note whether or not the noise is present tomorrow morning when the truck is cold.

I have a 5k service scheduled in early-mid November (long commute, racking up miles way faster than I would like), so I will have them look into this on my truck and report back with the results.

I may be confused on some terms used for parts. @Mag16tac you mentioned they also replaced your cam actuator. Reading back through old posts (see quote) you said they replaced the cam lifter. Are you referring to the same thing? My pump was replaced today and I was thinking they didn't replace the actuator, but I see that my work order does mention the fuel pump lifter assembly, so maybe they did?

Yes, appears the same part mtnfox. The Tech replacing my pump advised it was very important to change actuator also when changing high pressure fuel pump. I saw my invoice identified the part as the lifter assembly. So far I got about 500 miles on my replacement pump and no noise.
