Just finished this on my 2015 OR. All the wires were the same color/spot as OP for anyone wondering. Worked perfectly and is how the truck should have come from the factory in my opinion. Thanks for the write up.

I am only concerned that mods like this will force Toyota to just not offer a locker anymore... once some stupid driving ends up killing someone because going too fast, locked, on a winding mountain road.

The locker is for emergency unstuck only... you don't need it really at all with all the newer traction gizmos (TRAC, AUTO LSD, TRAC OFF, A-TRAC) that the 4WD Off Road TRD already has. The locker is just old school gonzo power. Before A-TRAC, I used the rear locker lots of times to go beyond the point I could get with the open diffs. However, my third Tacoma has A-TRAC and there has never been a situation that required the rear locker to get anywhere. In fact, A-TRAC is superior because it works on all 4 wheels, not just the back two... and it doesn't cause binding when you try to turn.

So, I get the love to have more traction choices, such as locker in 2WD, and 4WD-HI as well as LOW. But, we have 10 traction choices already... do we Off Road TRDs really need 12 or more?

In the end, let me just say to be careful and don't drive fast with the rear locked and ruin the fun of having a rear locker (if it is ever needed) option because Toyota's legal department kills it!

    Nice write up.
I did this mod, and it works fantastic!
Works just like the (gray) wire mod I did on my 1st gen Tacoma about 10 years ago.

I did this mod 6 month ago, but wasnt able to actually test it out on dirt.
I had the chance to go to one of the TW meets here in Hollister hills and hit the trails. For people like me that loves desert racing.. Hollister is more of a crawling deal...but it was fun non the less. I was able to pull some nice donuts and sweet drifts on 2 wheel high with rear lockers engage. I was worried about high speed engagement with the lockers engage bc iv been hearing that our rear lockers arnt the strongest out there, but they were wrong. I was on 2 high locked all the way through the trails and I have
Had no problems with it or with the mod. So if anyone wants the rear lockers engage for high speed 2 wheel drive and want to do stuff like I did, I would definitely recommend it! It's bullet prof too! Thanks OP!

Well not to rant or say something negative to ur post but, Some people would like that option for their own preference. And by this I mean, I also own a ford Raptor and the lockers are on demand on any setting...regardless of what 4Wd engagement you are. I did this mod to my OR 2014 tacoma bc I was getting fustraited that the raptor has that ability to do that and our tacoma don't? I mean I get the safety part of it but when ur experience and know what your doing then it's fine. Just like OP SAID...don't be stupid that's all

This...was out in the desert last week and plenty of 'roads' where 4x4 is overkill but a rear locker was plenty of traction and FUN. Hardest part of the mod is telling yourself that cutting the factory harness is going to be fine.

it was working with the indication in the cluster locker ans abs , but I try it again and now I cannot see any indication that the locker is on no light,no abs light, locker light double check everything and no success!

it has to "line up" in order to engage, did you allow it to "line up"?
