I change my own oil. I use Royal Purple, may be more expensive, but I have no idea what oil the shop uses...

Just did my engine oil and tranny fluid change, took about 45 min to an hour and I know I got good oil in both parts and that my filter is new, and the satisfaction of a job well done! Do-it-yourself ftw

I don't trust the quicky lubes, and the last time I had a stealership do mine, they forgot to put the filler cap back on. Besides, I use Mobile 1 and am not about to pay them full price to change my oil when I have to bring the oil.

do my own mostly, sometimes when I go for an inspection I may ask the mechanic to handle it but I trust him.

I like changing my taco's oil, in the old days before I had one I'd have to straddle a ditch to get under my truck, not anymore. Of course in the old days I could change my oil, oil filter and air filter for seven dollars and throw the used oil in the dirt road in front of the house to keep the dust down.

I let the dealership do the first and check over the truck @ 5000 mi. They had a promo at christmas for toys for tots they will get a 2nd chance for that at the end of the February. After that it's all mine. I had a close friend tell me (who worked at Jiffy Lube) That the oil was not always new oil. I don't know what that means exactly, but scared me enought not to trust any of those places.

I think the quality time spent wtih your own vehicle is worth it's weight in gold. It's done right and get to know your truck inside and out.

Always do all my own oil changes, and the rest of my family's for that matter. I know that the person doing the work (me) cares about Not getting my seat covered in grease or floormats and the filter actually gets changed.

I drive in place that I have been going to for a couple of years now.

I know how to do it myself, but I'm not wasting any time on my days off to do that.

I value my free time > small amount saved doing own oil changes.

It's not just about saving money. It's also about making sure it's done RIGHT - and that your vehicle is not otherwise abused/damaged. I value my free time too, but I think I can spare 20-30 minutes every few months.

I took mine to my dealership for the complimentary first service at 5000 miles - and was promptly informed that only the oil change was free... they'd have to charge me $15 for the tire rotation. I thought that was pretty crappy considering that free first service is just an attempt to sell you on their service department. FAIL. I wasn't in the mood to argue with them, so I just said "Fine... rotate 'em."... knowing full well I'd never be back except for any warranty issues. That was a Saturday. The next day, I discovered that the center cap from the right front (base model steel) wheel was missing. They had either forgotten to put it back on - or had put it on incorrectly and it flew off. Pathetic. If they can't handle that, why would I trust them with anything more complex? To their credit, they didn't give me any grief when I called and told them what had happen. They just ordered a new one and called me when it came in (about a week later) - and put it on.

That was actually the second strike against them. The first was when they scratched up the trim panel area around radio and the HVAC controls while replacing my original defective radio (BTW, the replacement is defective too) - and they got grease on my seat. After complaining, the service manager himself cleaned my seat (with some Toyota-branded can of upholstery cleaner) and ordered a new trim panel and a new set of HVAC controls. At least they didn't screw anything ELSE up when installing the replacement parts.

So anyway... yeah... not a big fan of my dealership service department. I wouldn't trust them to do an oil change properly.

Haven't gotten one yet but to keep the warranty I'm using the dealer until it expires. After that I'll do it myself. Easy on our trucks.

None currently, but I would like a better sounding exhaust and perhaps a cold air pack and some color coded step bars
My two neighbors have superchargers on there '04's. From what I know , they installed both as a home project, have upgraded to better sparkplugs, one installed a heavier duty clutch and both have upgraded to cold air boxes and better exhaust systems from the cat back. Both are 5 spds.
Premium fuel is required and both drive 60miles per day to work, which puts a lot of wear on the vehicles never mind the cost of gas. So after 3 yrs they have opted to buy Honda sedans to get better fuel mileage, which they are getting up to 33 on the highway to work.
Both have about 100K on their trucks.

Here in New England, all Taco extended cabs are called access cabs, while in Maryland this last week I saw a duplicate of my 06 and it was called a prerunner. I wonder why that is? Any idea's?
